For characters in “Big Sky,” it seems like family is, unfortunately, the source of a lot of death, drama, and grief.
In the first season of the ABC drama, one of the biggest faces of the series, Ryan Phillippe, gets murdered at the end of the first episode. He left behind his estranged wife, Jenny Hoyt, as well as his new love interest, Cassie Dewell.
Viewers also learn that Cassie was once married and had a son with her husband Andrew. He, unfortunately, passed away while enlisted in Afghanistan. Omar Metwally will now be a series regular for season two. He plays Mark Lindor, another character who is, in many ways, acting a certain way after family drama.
He opens up with Cassie and revealed that his sister was kidnapped from a mall while he was waiting outside for her. His sister’s body was never found, but a man admitted to kidnapping her.
Family Problems on ‘Big Sky’
In addition, the biggest family drama jackpot on the show occurred with the Kleinsasser family. The family consisted of Cheyenne, Horst, Blake, John Wayne, Rand, and Margaret. Amongst decades worth of deceit, mistrust, betrayal, and illegal mishaps on the family ranch, there was a lot for viewers to take in.
The “Big Sky” Twitter account recently posted a photo of Rand, John Wayne, and Cheyenne talking from season one. The photo has the eery caption, “Family can’t stay buried forever.”
Ironically, that’s exactly what’s going to happen to the “Big Sky” family. All the men have died, which only leaves behind Cheyenne and Margaret. Britt Robertson and Michelle Forbes will not be returning for season two, either. This means that the family’s murderous and deceitful ways will actually stay buried out of sight and out of the plot.
New Plot Focus for ABC Drama Series
For the second half of season one of “Big Sky,” the Kleinsassers were a major focus of the show.
Now, fans are wondering what direction the somewhat unpredictable and fast-paced show is going to go. The writers have given fans a slight idea of new characters bringing the all-new drama.
According to Deadline, Cassie and Jenny will be investigating a car wreck case that happened right outside of Helena, Montana. In the process, “they unravel the mystery of the accident, their worlds will collide with a band of unsuspecting teens, a flirtatious face from Jenny’s past and a vicious outsider hellbent on finding answers.”
Marshall-Green is playing that flirtatious old fling from Jenny’s past. Gavankar is playing the woman coming to look for answers after a betrayal.
