Bindi Irwin is taking some time to herself. The nature conservationist revealed that she’s stepping away from social media for an extended period.
Irwin shared the news via her Instagram, sharing a black and white photo of herself and her baby. Irwin recently became the mother to Grace Warrior, who’s now 2 months old. She revealed she wanted to focus on her family for a little while.
“I’m taking a break from social media and most of my work in the public eye for a month to be with my beautiful daughter and my wonderful family,” she wrote.
Fortunately for fans of the Irwins, Bindi won’t be gone forever. The TV personality revealed that she would only be gone from the platform for about a month. After spending her entire life in the spotlight, Irwin wants a little privacy for a little while.
“I feel tremendously grateful to share our life and conservation work with you but I need some time to focus on the happiness that is my family (both human and animal),” she captioned the post. “You can keep up with our adventures by following my family and Australia Zoo on social media.”
Bindi Irwin Discusses Grandfather
Irwin also wrote that she’s making the move to focus on her own mental health. She thanked her fans for sharing stories and battles with issues in their lives. Irwin said she wanted to raise awareness of these certain issues and promised no one was alone in their struggles.
“Thank you for sharing and speaking your truth. To my friends who are dealing with depression, anxiety, and other battles every day – I see you. These issues are very real and deserve to be discussed and addressed,” she continued. “Surround yourself with the light of people who genuinely care about you and will support you during the good times and the hard times.”
Previously, Irwin went into details on her grandfather, Bob. She accused him of psychologically abusing her and revealed the two are estranged. Bob is the father of the late Steve Irwin.
“From the time I was a little girl he has ignored me,” Irwin said in a Father’s Day post. “Preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me. He has never said a single kind word to me personally. It breaks my heart but it is not healthy to engage in an abusive relationship.”
Irwin revealed that the family continues to financially support Bob despite his allegedly abusive tendencies. They’ve been paying him weekly stipends since the 1990s. Irwin also encouraged anyone struggling with their mental health to seek help.
“Remember there are helplines available. Mental health deserves more understanding and support instead of being dismissed or patronized. You are absolutely worthy of love and kindness,” she wrote.
