The Australian Zoo is famous for its connection to the Crocodile Hunter and for giving visitors an appreciation of the animals there. According to Bindi Sue Irwin, the zoo is also a place of healing. Irwin and company are supports of animal well-being and health. So, caring for an injured creature is something they are happy to take on when possible.
The daughter of Steve Irwin – the late “Crocodile Hunter” – shared an update about a wounded animal being treated at the zoo via social media on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
According to her post, the zoo has recently been helping an injured pelican get back on her feet – and wings. “Meet Ellen, a gorgeous pelican who was found with a metal hook and fishing line lodged in her mouth,” Bindi Sue Irwin began her post. She also included two photos of the beautiful bird, Ellen, resting comfortably at the zoo during her recovery.
Unsurprisingly, a doctor on staff at the Australian Zoo has played an important role in Ellen’s road to recovery. “Dr. Ludo from our @AustraliaZoo Wildlife Hospital carefully extracted the line and removed the hook,” Bindi Sue Irwin also shared. “This sweet girl is now resting in the Bird’s ICU.”
Fortunately for Ellen, the injuries she sustained from the fishing line and metal hook were not as serious as they could have been. Also, she will soon get to go back to her home, according to Irwin. “Thankfully she did not sustain any major injuries, and will soon return back to her natural habitat— @wildlifewarriorsworldwide,” she also shared on Instagram.
