There are always two sides to one story, and the intimate proposal between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani is no exception. Of course, both sides of this story line up in a perfectly romantic tale.
A Family Affair
Stefani appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show telling the story of how the October proposal took place. Blake asked her to be his wife at his Oklahoma ranch with both of their families gathered together.
“His sister and her family were there, my kids were there, and my brother and his family. We were all there,” says Stefani.
Shelton feels it was deeply important to have Gwen’s kids, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6, be part of such an important moment.
Blake has become very close to Gwen’s kids from her previous marriage with Gavin Rossdale.
Blake Shelton Asks Gwen’s Father About the Proposal
“I had no idea,” says Stefani. “Blake had this ring ready to go for a like a couple of weeks. Nobody knew.”
“My dad knew because on my birthday Blake showed my dad, and told him he was going to do it,” she adds.
“Oh my God!” exclaims Clarkson during the interview. “He’s so old fashioned. He wanted to talk to your dad first.”
Blake Admits He Was Nervous
Of course, Blake Shelton was under pressure since he was the one proposing, hoping to make it the perfect experience.
He admits he was nervous even though this is his second proposal.
“The scariest thing was I had that ring in the compartment on the door of my truck for about a week, and I don’t know about you, but stuff falls out of that damn thing on my truck all the time,” Shelton shares. “I’m digging in there looking for a flashlight or chains and kept thinking, man somebody’s going to hit the jackpot whenever I drop this thing out of my truck.”
“I wanted to keep it in there all the time because I didn’t know when I would have the exact right moment. But thank God I didn’t lose her ring,” the country music artist says.
How Did Blake Shelton’s Proposal Take Place?
Gwen says her son was sitting right by a fireplace when she walked in, and Blake was getting down on his knees, appearing to be starting a fire.
“He said, ‘Can you look in that cabinet and get me a fire starter?'” she says. “So I opened the cabinet, and there was a ring in the box.”
“I was like ‘Aghhh!! What? Are you Serious?'” adds Stefani. She says she was screaming and crying, and the family ran in to witness the joyous union of the newly engaged couple.
Her sister-in-law-to-be is the one who took the picture the couple shared on social media, but Gwen says there are no videos of the proposal.
