‘Blue Bloods’ Actor Reveals How ‘Heavily Involved’ Tom Selleck is in ‘Every Aspect’ of Production

If you have ever thought about why the police drama Blue Bloods is so awesome, the first name that pops in your head is probably Tom Selleck.

Gregory Jbara doesn’t have any problem saying that Tom Selleck is the driving force behind the show. Jbara is an actor and singer best known for his recurring role on Blue Bloods. He plays the character of Garrett Moore, Deputy Commissioner of Public Information of the NYPD. He serves as the in-house reporter for the Police Commissioner’s office. As a result, he is a close friend and an adviser to the Police Commissioner, Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck). Jbara and Selleck have starred in the role since the very first season of the popular show aired back in 2010.

So, it’s safe to say that Jbara and Selleck have an extremely close working relationship. Not only do they have that on set, but they also have that same thing in real life.

“People go, ‘Oh! You can tell how close you are in real life,” Jbara told Starry Mag in 2020. “We did work together, but we didn’t spend a lot of time together on In & Out and we only shot one pilot. But Tom, gratefully, trusts me and I also get him.”

Tom Selleck Puts the Right People Around Him on ‘Blue Bloods’

If you are a fan of Blue Bloods, then you know all about the great chemistry that the actors have on the show. It’s not just that of Gregory Jbara and Tom Selleck. It’s also the likes of Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes. Jbara credits Selleck for surrounding himself with great talent that all think alike.

“He is successful because he puts the people around him that will allow him to be him. Even though he’s not credited as a producer or writer, he is heavily involved in every aspect of the production of the show.”

Jbara wasn’t joking around. Selleck is very involved in the production of Blue Bloods, both during the actual shooting of an episode and even afterward in the editing room.

“He is even in the editing room after every episode. He’s an opinionated guy and he isn’t shy about if we’re in the middle of shooting something, a particular scene, he’ll just say, ‘What do you think about…’ or ‘That might now work because…’ Literally like right after a take!”

Selleck’s straightforward approach, however, doesn’t fit with everyone in television. Jbara said that he knows how Selleck works, so they make it work but not everyone could do the same.

“I think actors with more fragile egos might not be able to handle that kind of candor without taking it personally and I don’t because I know who he is and how he works.”
