Sami Gayle has been a mainstay on the cast of “Blue Bloods” since 2010. On the show, she plays Nicky Reagan-Boyle, the daughter of Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan. But in reality, Gayle couldn’t believe the performance that co-star Donnie Wahlberg gave at one of his New Kids on the Block concerts.
Join the club, Sami. The long-established boy band has a massive following and is known for putting on a good show. The “Blue Bloods” actress may not quite be at the “Blockhead” level of fandom, but she was pleasantly surprised at the musical talent of her on-screen uncle. And funnily enough, it was her older sister who first exposed her to the band.
As a 25-year old, the heyday of New Kids on the Block was a little before Sami Gayle’s time. And from 1994 to 2008, Wahlberg’s group was disbanded entirely. But fortunately for the younger generation, the band has since reassembled and has been experiencing something of a renaissance in recent years. That means those like Sami Gayle get to witness the greatness of the Knight brothers, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood, and of course, Donnie Wahlberg.
“I went to one of his concerts, I guess two years ago. And he is just unbelievable,” Gayle said. “I mean he jumps around, dances, sings, the whole shebang, and I don’t know how he does it every night.”
Donnie Wahlberg has millions of fans who constantly wonder the same thing. Though, very few have the perspective of being his colleague in a completely different field.
The ‘Blue Bloods’ Actress Knows a Thing or Two About Singing
In Hollywood, there’s a premium on being multitalented. The “triple threat” is often talked about. And while an actor doesn’t need multiple talents to find success, being able to sing and dance in addition to the acting chops is a major advantage.
Clearly, “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg has the gift of multiple talents. But so too does the Nicky Reagan-Boyle actress. One wouldn’t think it when looking at her relatively unassuming character on the show, but Sami Gayle has a Broadway background.
Her official stage career began in 2007 with an off-Broadway production of Gypsy. Fans of musicals will know the Stephen Sondheim work well. The same year, Gayle appeared in a Broadway production of Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
Her big break, however, came in 2008. The “Blue Bloods” actress reprised her role as Baby June in a higher-profile Broadway production of Gypsy. Based on her professional musical experience, it’s safe to say she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to Donnie Wahlberg’s own stage performances.
