It’s a great day for “Blue Bloods” fans! Filming of the 12th season of the popular CBS drama series is underway! The upcoming season will continue the story of the Reagans – a New York City family dedicated to law enforcement.

Two of its stars – Donnie Wahlberg and Vanessa Ray – posted about beginning filming the beloved family cop drama via their Instagram stories on Wednesday, July 21.

Wahlberg plays New York City Police Department detective Danny Reagan. Wahlberg’s story showed him standing near a bridge in what is presumably New York City. He captioned the photo, “Back to the grind. #THANKFUL. QNS Bound.” It also included numbers and letters designating the city’s many subway lines.

Ray plays NYPD officer Eddie Janko Reagan in “Blue Bloods.” She is the wife of fellow officer Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), who is also the brother of Wahlberg’s character. In her Instagram story, Ray shows a video of herself in a makeup trailer. She also shows a screenshot of her and a woman holding a baby. She says this person “always remembers to check in (on) my first day of a new season.”

The official Instagram account of “Blue Bloods” also posted on Wednesday. It shared photos of three of its cast members having fun on the set. Wahlberg and Ray are featured, as is Tom Selleck. He plays New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. Frank is the father of Danny, Jamie, and attorney Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan). He is the son of retired NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).

Along with the photos of Wahlberg, Ray, and Selleck, the caption, “Laugh with us,” was added.

‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Learned Title of 12th Season Premiere Earlier This Summer

The news that the 12th season of “Blue Bloods” has started filming isn’t the information fans of the show have learned this season. Earlier in July, the show’s executive producer, Siobhan Byrne O’Connor, shared the title of the 12th season premiere episode. That title is “Hate Is Hate.”

O’Connor also told fans at the time to expect the show to begin filming the 12th season during the third week of July. She wasn’t wrong about that!

She shared the title via Instagram and also shared that the episode would be directed by David Barrett. He is no stranger to “Blue Bloods.” In addition to serving as an executive producer, Barrett has also directed more than 50 episodes of the popular drama.

What is in store for the members of the Reagan family in the upcoming season of “Blue Bloods” is a mystery. Whatever happens, it will be a journey fans will definitely want to take. The premiere of the 12th season of “Blue Bloods” has been set for Friday, Oct. 1. So mark your calendars! Find out how you can watch the previous seasons before then here.
