Bridget Moynahan from “Blue Bloods” is using her fame to spotlight some of the issues women around the world are facing.

Recently, the Taliban has taken over Afghanistan in a blitz last week. In the past, the Taliban had ruled the country with brutal force and rules. A huge part of this was massive restrictions on women’s lives.

Now, women are fearful that all the hard work over the past two decades may be thrown away. Women in Afghanistan have expanded and reenvisioned their rights, but the Taliban’s ultra-conservative Islamic views may reverse all that progress.

Bridget Moynahan Speak Out on Situation in Afghanistan

Bridget Moynahan spoke out about this issue on Instagram today by reposting content from Global Citizen. This is a nonprofit organization that focuses on international education and advocacy with the long-term goal of helping to end extreme poverty.

“Women and girls are the most vulnerable now that the Taliban have taken hold of Afghanistan. For two decades, Afghan leaders, activists, and citizens worked toward gains for women’s rights, including access to education and the ability to work. However, the Taliban’s recent siege has fueled concern of a return to their 1996-2001 rule, when women and girls were barred from work and school, had to cover their faces and bodies, and needed to be accompanied by a male relative outside their homes,” the organization wrote and Moynahan shared.

Global Citizen shared that women may have to go back to not getting to work or go to school, needing to cover their face and bodies, as well as always needing a man to escort them out of the house.

“Now is the time for citizens and world leaders to step up and protect the rights of women, girls, and all of those facing a crisis in Afghanistan,” the organization urges. The nonprofit shared a list of ways in which people can help the women in Afghanistan.

According to NBC News, a Taliban official announced a general “amnesty” for everyone in Afghanistan. Women were also urged to join the government. It’s unclear if this will be the case exactly and it is met with skepticism by many Afghans. There are already cases of brutal treatment in some communities.

Moynahan Charitable Work

In addition to playing a prosecutor on the CBS drama “Blue Bloods” and raising her son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, the actress keeps up with charity work and donations.

A lot of her social media posts have to do with this side of the actress. She once shared a photo of her lighting the Empire State Building for two organizations she works for. That includes Global Citizen.

She has also supported the Global Poverty Project, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and Feeding America.

Most recently, Bridget Moynahan has been using her following on Twitter to help support teachers in need of school supplies. Several of these educators are sharing their wish lists and hoping for support.
