Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg have spent more than 10 years by each other’s side on “Blue Bloods.” They play brother and sister, Donnie and Erin Reagan, on the show. And with how close they’ve become over the decade-plus, they may as well be brother and sister in real life. In fact, Moynahan wished Donnie Wahlberg a happy birthday today with an Instagram caption to that effect.

As Erin Reagan in “Blue Bloods,” Bridget Moynahan shares a love-hate relationship with her brother Danny. She and Donnie Wahlberg’s characters don’t always see eye to eye, and as a result, they’ve shared some major argument scenes on screen.

One has to assume that Donnie and Bridget themselves don’t butt heads as often. But being together for going on 12 seasons of “Blue Bloods,” their working relationship has likely seen its fair share of arguments. Anything less, they wouldn’t be siblings.

In the post, Moynahan refers to Wahlberg as “Brother D.” She wished the Danny Reagan actor happy birthday, including a picture of them together at the International Emmy Awards. But even outside of work-related functions, the pair’s friendship goes deep.

“She and I started out as friends coming out of tough relationships, as single parents,” Donnie Wahlberg told CBS Watch! in 2019. “And became friends and confidants and watched each other go through other relationships and then ultimately find spouses. Bridget and I have gone through this parallel journey as friends and have been there for each other.”

Donnie Wahlberg Convinced Moynahan to Join ‘Blue Bloods’

It may surprise fans to learn that Donnie Wahlberg was the first to think of Bridget Moynahan for the Erin Reagan role. But even further, he stayed on her case when she initially turned “Blue Bloods” down. That’s right. The now 52-year old is responsible for Moynahan being on “Blue Bloods” in the first place.

The two first worked together on a 2008 pilot for a show that never saw the light of day.

“We did a pilot together in 2008 that I executive-produced called ‘Bunker Hill,'” Wahlberg said. “When the ‘Blue Bloods’ offer came along, I immediately called her, and I said, ‘You have to play the sister.'”

Although, Tom Selleck gets some of the credit. Without his involvement, there’s a chance the show would have gotten away from filming on location—a non-starter for Moynahan.

“She was worried it was going to shoot in Canada, and she had a young child and didn’t want to have to commute. I said, ‘I guarantee you, we won’t go to Canada … because Tom Selleck is never going to do a show in Canada. Knowing him, he will fight to do it in New York, because he wants it to be authentic,” Wahlberg said in the CBS interview.
