‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg’s Brother Mark Didn’t Attend His Wedding to Jenny McCarthy: Here’s Why

Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy tied the knot on August 31st, 2014. Out of all the guests in attendance one person was conspicuously absent. Donnie’s brother Mark was a no-show. For many families, this would be the cause for some friction. On the other hand, it could be the symptom of some underlying issue. However, Mark didn’t miss his brother’s wedding because of some long-standing sibling rivalry. It wasn’t because he didn’t approve of the bride, either.

Donny Wahlberg opened up about this in a 2015 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. Wahlberg told Stern that his brother was busy. According to Donnie, his brother had his hands full celebrating his daughter’s birthday. It’s hard to knock him for prioritizing his little one over his brother.

Jenny McCarthy chimed in to say that her brother-in-law had always been “very nice,” to her. So, it all boils down to a scheduling conflict.

It turns out that Donnie and Mark Wahlberg are both pretty understanding guys. Donnie said that there are no hard feelings between them after Mark didn’t show up for the wedding. In fact, the Blue Bloods star said that he didn’t go to his brother’s wedding, either. “It wasn’t personal,” he explained, “I was working.”

Mark and Donnie Wahlberg’s Relationship

Back in December of last year, Donnie Wahlberg and the rest of the New Kids on the Block were on Jenny McCarthy’s Sirius XM radio show. At one point, Donnie opened up about his and Mark’s relationship. The Boston-native didn’t get too deep into things. However, he did get emotional when talking about his brother.

That moment came when Donnie Wahlberg was looking back on NKOTB’s 2011 concert at Fenway Park. Mark Wahlberg introduced them before they hit the stage. While doing so, Mark credited his older brother for his success. Then, he noted that he introduced them the first time they hit the stage and it felt like a full-circle moment to be bringing them up on stage at Fenway.

“I’m gonna cry,” Donnie Wahlberg told his wife. “He was the original member of the band with me.”

He went on to say that he and Mark used to be very close. However, their careers, locations, and families have caused them to drift apart. “Obviously we’re brothers and partners in business,” Donnie Wahlberg said, referring to Wahlburgers, the burger chain they co-own. He went on, saying, “Our relationship is fine but it’s different. We’ve grown so far apart, just through work and career and things that are important.”

However, the emotional Donnie Wahlberg couldn’t help but feel some pride for his and his brother’s success. Looking back at all they’ve been through both together and individually, he said, “Look how far we’ve come.”
