Donnie Wahlberg has been playing Danny Reagan on “Blue Bloods” since 2010. Over the course of 235 episodes, the actor has picked up a thing or two about how a TV show is filmed. Wahlberg has almost always been on the actor side of the camera throughout his career. But at one point, he had an opportunity to direct an episode of “Blue Bloods.”
It’s not like Wahlberg came into it with zero experience whatsoever. After all, the guy has been acting since the mid-1990s. It’s safe to say he knew a thing or two about the directing process before he ever gave it a shot. But he did have a few directing credits to his name before he tackled a 2014 episode of “Blue Bloods.”
His experience just happened to be limited to documentary-style projects. In 1992, he directed a documentary called “Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch: Music for the People.” In that same vein, he directed two video shorts for his own band, New Kids on the Block, in 2008 and 2009.
But it wasn’t until 2014 that he had the opportunity to direct an episode of an actual network series. Of course, it came on the show in which he plays a starring role, “Blue Bloods.” The episode was titled “Manhattan Queens.” It followed Danny and Baez as they attempt to find the killer of a popular drag queen.
The episode was the 14th of “Blue Bloods” Season 4. It scored a 6.9/10 on 367 ratings from IMDb users. And whether or not “Blue Bloods” was happy with the directing work that Donnie Wahlberg did remains to be seen. He hasn’t directed another episode since.
The ‘Blue Bloods’ Star on How His Wife Failed to Recognize Him on ‘The Masked Singer’
Forget about acting and directing. The “Blue Bloods” star recently put his singing and dancing chops to the test as a costumed performer on “The Masked Singer.” His wife, Jenny McCarthy, is a panelist on the show. Her job is guessing the identity of the singers behind the masks.
She was absolutely stunned to find out that her own husband was behind the crooning rooster known as Cluedle-Doo. Donnie was intentionally trying to pull one over on her. But he couldn’t help but be slightly offended that she didn’t recognize him.
“She knows how I move my hips and everything I do. And it actually probably helped disguise my moves and gesticulations that you might have picked up on had I not been in the costume,” Wahlberg said in an interview on “The Masked Singer.”
Then the couple aired out their feelings on Twitter.
“Maybe she was told she couldn’t guess her hubby anymore since she’d already guessed me 112 times per season for four years,” Donnie wrote in a tweet.
If anything, McCarthy is more embarrassed about the whole thing than anyone.
