‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg Revealed His Key to Balancing Acting, Singing and Family Life

Although he’s enjoying his time on the hit CBS series Blue Bloods, Donnie Wahlberg says there obviously needs to be a balance between home and work life.

During an interview with WebMD in 2014, Donnie Wahlberg reveals his key advice on balancing acting, singing, and family life. “I’ve always been able to multitask in my career and make it work with my kids. Fortunately, I’m now married to someone who likes to spend as much time with me as I like to spend with her, and we’re both starting to see that it’s less important to fit our relationship into our careers than to fit our careers into our relationship.”

Donnie Wahlberg also discusses how music has changed since his time as a member of New Kids on the Block. “Back then we made music for our fans that we enjoyed,” he says. “And now we make music for our fans that we enjoy. That’s the secret: Don’t get caught up in what we want, but pay attention to what the fans want and do it in a way that we also enjoy.

Donnie Wahlberg then explains what draws him into the Blue Bloods story. “No idea! My brothers spent their early lives running from the cops, and I got in a lot less trouble than they did,” Wahlberg jokes. “I think it’s because I was smarter. They think it’s because I was less of a risk-taker. But I seem to have an instinct for police work. All the cops we work with on Blue Bloods say I would have made a great detective.”

In regards to how he stays in shape for Blue Bloods, Donnie Wahlberg adds, “I get really in shape to go on tour with the New Kids, then when it’s time to do Blue Bloods, I’ll spin out of control with my diet, gain some weight, and eat a lot of donuts like a cop. But I do try to pay attention to my health. Our [New Kids] shows are the best cardio. I probably burn as many calories as a boxer in a 12-round fight.”

Donnie Wahlberg Discusses “Perfect Day” With Family

Donnie Wahlberg previously described what his perfect day would be like to UpRoxx, which includes spending time with his wife, Jenny McCarthy, and kids. “I would wake up cuddling with my wife. Take her and our kids and all of their friends out to breakfast at our favorite diner,” he gushes during the interview. “Get in a quick workout with my wife, while streaming an episode of The Crown. Go golf with my golfing buddies. Meet my wife and kids for dinner.”

Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy tied the knot in 2014. Together, the couple share three kids, which are two from Donnie’s marriage with Kim Fey and one from Jenny’s marriage with John Asher.
