Donnie Wahlberg loves working with Marisa Ramirez on Blue Bloods. The NYPD detective partners seem to have a lot of fun behind the scenes.

Wahlberg told CBS in 2019 about some of the pranks and jokes that go on when the cameras stop rolling.

“There have been times when Marisa and I laugh probably for an hour straight. We might tell jokes between takes, or someone goofs up a line. Sometimes she’ll pronounce a phrase backward — like, for ‘the blue shirt,’ she might say, ‘the shoe blurt’ or something, and we literally have to shut down production for about 20 minutes until we get it out.”

It seems like Wahlberg is like this with all of his co-stars. His first partner, Jennifer Esposito, who left the show in 2012, said she and the New Kids on the Block singer were constantly getting in trouble because they couldn’t stop laughing on set.

“We had so much fun,” she told PeopleTV. “I think they needed to make us separate because that’s how much fun we had. We would be cracking up and dancing like right before a take and then we’d be like, ‘So did he do it!’”

Wahlberg said he loved working with both women, as they both brought something different to Blue Bloods.

“The beauty of having had these different partners is that they each bring something different to react to. Jennifer made boring lines hysterical; she made throwaway lines authentic,” he said. “She was a great partner and is a great actor and friend. When Marisa came along, I knew immediately she would be a lifelong friend. Marisa came in, and she was just a solid person and actor, a solid partner on camera and off.”

Wahlberg Close to Another ‘Blue Bloods’ Co-Star

Donnie Wahlberg also discussed his friendship with Bridget Moynahan. They met filming a failed pilot in 2008 called Bunker Hill and have stayed close ever since.

“She and I started out as friends coming out of tough relationships, as single parents,” Wahlberg said. “And became friends and confidants and watched each other go through other relationships and then ultimately find spouses. Bridget and I have gone through this parallel journey as friends and have been there for each other.”

They’ve both since gotten married. Wahlberg married model and actress Jenny McCarthy. Moynahan married businessman Andrew Frankel.

When Wahlberg first read the pilot for Blue Bloods, he immediately thought of Moynahan to play the sister role. But she’d already passed on the role. She was worried that they would film in Canada. But Wahlberg talked her back into the show.

“I guarantee you, we won’t go to Canada … because Tom Selleck is never going to do a show in Canada. Knowing him, he will fight to do it in New York, because he wants it to be authentic,” he told her.

Turns out, Wahlberg was right. The show shoots in New York.
