This must be what it means to “sing your heart out.” In a recent Instagram clip, “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg showed his fans just what they mean to him, giving his whole heart to the crowd during a recent NKOTB performance.

“Got love?” the “Blue Bloods” actor asked on the August 14 Instagram post. The video shows the “Blue Bloods” star pretending to rip out his heart. He then hurls it into the crowd while on stage with the band. Wahlberg added the hashtag #spreadloveandlovewillspread to the video that was recorded recently in Brooklyn New York.

NKOTB Paves the Way

Before there was BTS, or the millennials went crazy for the Backstreet Boys, the New Kids On The Block forged the path. One would be hard-pressed to find a pre-teen or teen girl in the band’s early days who didn’t have a favorite NKOTB singer.

“Blue Bloods” Donnie Wahlberg and his fellow New Kids On The Block (NKOTB) band members were what could be considered the “flagship” boy band. The five formerly unknown Boston natives Wahlberg, brothers Jordan and Danny Knight, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood, formed the wildly popular group in the late 1980s. The group’s second album “Hangin’ Tough” found unprecedented success going eight-times platinum as well as creating five top ten smash-hits.

While the boy band found iconic-level success, their fame began to dwindle. And the popular sounds of the time moved from bubble-gum pop to metal and grunge in the mid-1990s. The group decided to disband shortly afterward. However, in 2008, the group decided to make a comeback, banking on their past popularity and the pocketbooks of their now-adult former fan base. The group released an album entitled “The Block,” coupled with worldwide throw-back tours.

While the band was on its decades-long hiatus, former member and “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg found fame on both the big screen and on television.

‘Blue Bloods’ Family Tradition

In 2010, Wahlberg scored a role in the hit CBS series “Blue Bloods” as Detective Danny Reagan. The “Blue Bloods” detective is the oldest son of Frank Reagan, who is played by Tom Selleck. Each member of the Reagan family has taken on a role in law enforcement in New York City. Danny’s father, Frank moved up the ranks from NYPD officer to eventually becoming the New York City Police Department’s Police Commissioner. This was a position that was formerly held by Franks father and Danny’s grandfather Henry Reagan. He is portrayed by Len Cariou.

Danny’s siblings, Jamie and Erin also hold positions in the New York City legal system. Jamie (Will Estes) is the Reagan family’s youngest son on “Blue Bloods.”

He currently serves as a New York City Police Sergeant. Erin, Frank Reagan’s only daughter, is portrayed by Bridget Moynahan. She is currently serving as the New York City Assistant District Attorney.
