So far, two episodes of the 12th season of “Blue Bloods” have aired. The season premiere took place on Oct. 1, with the second episode airing on Oct. 8 on CBS.
The series follows the Reagan family – a New York City family whose members have dedicated themselves to law enforcement. One family member, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), is a retired New York City Police Department commissioner.
His son, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is the current police commissioner. Also, three of Frank’s sons – Joe, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), and Jamie (Will Estes) – all became officers with the NYPD. Joe was killed in the line of duty before “Blue Bloods” began its television run. Also, Frank’s daughter, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) also enforces the law. She does so as an assistant district attorney in New York City.
Obviously, fans had many questions going into the 12th season of the family cop drama. Some of these questions involved relationships between the characters. One relationship that created a lot of attention – and continues to do so – is the relationship between Detective Danny Reagan and Detective Maria Baez, his partner on the police force.
Some fans want to see the relationship between Danny and Maria (Marisa Ramirez) become romantic. Other “Blue Bloods” fans are completely against that relationship being anything but professional, according to Looper.
Fans Share Their Thoughts About Danny and Maria on Reddit
Some of these fans have shared their views about the topic on Reddit. The discussion took place as part of a thread created by User r/Powerful_Factor1887. It is titled, “Am I the only one who doesn’t want to see Danny and Baez get together?”
The short answer: No!
However, “Blue Bloods” fans had much more to say than just, “no.” Some of their responses also referenced the relationship between Danny’s brother, Jamie, and his wife, Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray). Jamie and Eddie were partners on the NYPD when they fell in love.
For example, user littlelu74 said, “No way they should get together! They don’t even have that kind of chemistry, imo. Jamie and Eddy [sic] is enough.”
“No, you are definitely not the only one. There were some posts here during the last few weeks of the season discussing this very thing. Jamie and Eddie already got together and got married; we don’t need another professional-partners-turn-romantic-partners storyline on the show. It would be unprofessional of them to do so, and it would be a lazy cop-out (no pun intended) by the writers and producers,” user Navitach said.
‘Blue Bloods’ Showrunner Comments on the Future of the Relationship Between Danny and Maria
Interestingly, one of the people behind “Blue Bloods” has said that fans shouldn’t expect the relationship between Danny and Maria to turn romantic. That person is Kevin Wade. He is the showrunner for the CBS series and a writer.
According to what he told TV Insider in May, fans shouldn’t expect a romantic relationship between the two NYPD partners to happen in the near future.
“We recognize it and certainly the actors like each other, in front of the camera and between setups. … There really aren’t stories in happy couples and there are definitely not stories in police detectives on the job having a personal relationship with their partner,” Wade explained.
