Leave it to a Blue Bloods fan to uncover an old, forgotten storyline. That’s exactly what one user on Reddit did on Saturday afternoon.
The storyline in question occurs during Season 1 Episode 4 titled, “Officer Down.” One user on the popular forum that goes by u/TEX5003 recalled that she show briefly mentions a Reagan cousin. However, they wanted to know if that cousin had ever been brought up again since then.
“Towards the beginning of season 1, episode 4 Jamie says he has a cousin who is a sergeant in Central Park,” the original post states. “Is this cousin ever brought up again? It also makes me wonder who else outside the immediate family is in law enforcement of some kind.”
Will Estes portrays Sergeant Jameson “Jamie” Reagan in the show. He is the youngest child of Frank Reagan, the New York City Police Commissioner, and siblings with older brother Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and older sister Erin (Bridget Moynahan).
Other ‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Respond With Their Own Theories
It is without a doubt an intriguing question. What if there was a whole storyline that could have played out around one of the unknown Reagan cousins? Nonetheless, Blue Bloods fans were quick to chime in with their own thoughts about why Jamie’s cousin never made another appearance in the show.
“Could be his mother’s side of the family,” one fan simply responded.
Others, meanwhile, had a little more depth in their answers. One fan thinks that it is probably a more distant cousin. They also believe that it is not uncommon for entire families to be part of the same police force.
“It’s been forever since I’ve seen that. I don’t remember any further mention. It would have to be like 2nd cousins and further out. I think Frank’s older brother died young so there aren’t any first cousins running around. In real life, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to find families with a whole bunch of siblings uncles, cousins, grandparents, and so forth that have all been NYPD.”
And finally, one more Blue Bloods fan wishes the show would follow up on that idea. They also think there could be other spin-off storylines that the writers of the show toyed with, but never ultimately brought to fruition.
“Yeah I also noticed that, and I always wished they’d follow up on that. I get the sense that because it’s from one of the first few episodes, the writers were still playing around with different ideas/potential plot threads (including this one where we could’ve eventually met a Reagan cousin who’s also on the job), and just never picked up the storyline after planting that seed. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers themselves have completely forgotten about it lol.”
