New Kids on the Block and Blue Bloods fans alike are on the edge of their seats for this one. Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan is the target of an apparent assassination attempt in the upcoming episode. Yes, Danny will find himself in grave danger on tonight’s installment. But try not to worry too much. Frank Reagan is calling in the big guns.

Okay, maybe you can worry a bit. The teaser trailer from the end of last week’s episode definitely painted a grim picture. But we can take comfort in the fact that none other than Will Estes’ Jamie Reagan will be by Danny’s side to see him through this danger.

It seems that Tom Selleck’s Commissioner Frank Reagan, who is conveniently the father to both Danny and Jamie, gives his youngest son the all-important duty of protecting his older brother. However, Danny may not necessarily approve of Jamie’s methods.

During an interview with TV Insider, Blue Bloods star Will Estes talked about the situation. It looks like we may get a heartwarming sequence in which Jamie has a sleepover with older brother Danny.

“As you can imagine, it goes over like a lead balloon with Danny that Jamie’s going to be his ‘handler.’ Danny doesn’t take orders so well, and Jamie is just trying to make the best of it,” said Estes.

And while this fraternal dynamic sounds like it’s going to be highly entertaining, don’t make the mistake of thinking Danny is out of the woods yet. Will Estes added that “there is real danger” lurking around the corner.

The Danny and Jamie Situation on ‘Blue Bloods’ Could Indicate Growth for the Younger Brother

There has always been tension between Donnie Wahlberg and Will Estes’ characters on Blue Bloods. They’re brothers. That just comes with the territory. But fans and even some characters on the show have been wondering about Jamie Reagan’s future in the NYPD.

One would think Jamie’d have made lieutenant by now. After all, he’s a dedicated, competent sergeant. Not to mention he’s the son of the police commissioner. So what’s holding him back? Well, we saw his hesitance when it came to taking the sergeant’s exam. He had to be pressured into it by his dad. Jamie enjoyed the work he was doing as a beat cop and didn’t exactly want the promotion.

Now, however, as he matures and looks to raise a family potentially, things are changing. The upcoming episode of Blue Bloods finds Jamie dealing with lieutenant-level responsibility. For one, he’s charged with the protection of a detective who happens to be his brother. Second, he tries to navigate a new partner for his wife Eddie (Vanessa Ray).

Perhaps we’ll see Jamie come out the other side with a different perspective on leadership.
