Nicky Reagan-Boyle actress Sami Gayle has effectively grown up on the set of “Blue Bloods.” She made her first appearance on the show at just 14 years old, and she continues to play her character to this day.
Recently, she has taken a step back from “Blue Bloods” to pursue other opportunities. But it appears that she will be back for at least a few episodes come Season 12 of the long-running show. Between Seasons 2 through 10, however, Sami Gayle was a series regular. And the young actress had to balance her acting career with her educational ambitions.
In 2018, Gayle had to figure out how to juggle filming a movie and starring in “Blue Bloods,” all while maintaining focus on her coursework as a student at Columbia. In an interview with Hollywood Life, she talked about the weeks-long stretch when her schedule was at its craziest.
“We shot Wednesday to Sunday schedule. I did this for about seven weeks. On Sunday night, we’d finish shooting, I don’t know maybe at three or four in the morning,” Gayle said. “I’d get on a plane at 6 a.m., I would come to New York, shoot Blue Bloods in the morning, then I would go to school. I boarded my classes that semester from 1 to 8 so that I could attend as many as possible on the Monday, Tuesday. I wrote my papers on planes!”
The movie she was filming is called “Candy Jar.” It was written by her brother and is available to watch on Netflix.
The Actress and Her Character on ‘Blue Bloods’ Went to the Same School
Unlike many characters on television shows, Nick Reagan-Boyle reflects Sami Gayle’s real age. Both the actress and her character were born in 1996, making her the oldest of the family’s third generation.
In earlier seasons of the show, fans may remember the daughter of Erin Reagan looking around at potential colleges. Little did we know, Sami Gayle was looking at those same colleges in real life. In “Blue Bloods,” Nicky Reagan-Boyle settles on Columbia. And in her real life, actress Sami Gayle decided on the very same school. More importantly, she was accepted in both instances.
In 2018, Gayle starred in the movie written by her brother, a fellow Columbia graduate. Despite her desire to pursue higher education, make no mistake, the “Blue Bloods” star is dedicated to her acting career. In a 2014 interview with Refinery29, the Nicky Reagan-Boyle actress made her ambitions clear.
“I don’t want to do anything besides act, but I DO want to be a really well-rounded person,” Gayle said. “I’ve already done two summer sessions — I just finished my second one yesterday!”
These days, the 25-year old actress has a Columbia degree to her name, just like her character on the show.
