‘Blue Bloods’ Actor Marisa Ramirez Sticks to the Script, But Named the Costar That Adlibs ‘A Lot’

While portraying her character on the popular CBS cop drama “Blue Bloods,” actress Marisa Ramirez plays by the rules. However, not all of the actors in the series follow the guidelines set out by the script.

The Detective Maria Baez actress talked about how she sticks to the script during a 2017 interview with the SUP Creative Group. During that interview, the actress was asked about how frequently she and her co-stars adlib on the set.

“I’ve been told that many actors ad-lib their lines because it is hard to memorize the script. Do you say the script or do you ad-lib with the scene?” Ramirez was asked.

First, she shared how she feels about adlibbing herself.

“Oh, I say the script,” the “Blue Bloods” actress said.

After that comment was when the actress aired some behind-the-scenes information about one of her co-stars.

So, which co-star decides to frequently go off of the script? It’s not Tom Selleck, who plays New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. It’s not Len Cariou, who plays retired police commissioner Henry Reagan. And, it’s not Bridget Moynahan in her role as assistant district attorney Erin Reagan. Also, it’s not Will Estes, who plays officer Jamie Reagan.

So, who is it?

According to Marisa Ramirez, the actor who most frequently adlibs while filming “Blue Bloods” is Donnie Wahlberg. He plays Detective Danny Reagan, one of the heirs to the Reagan family law enforcement dynasty, in the popular series.

Here’s what Ramirez had to say about her “Blue Bloods” co-star: “But what’s funny is [Donnie] will ad-lib a lot.”

While on the topic of the goings-on behind the scenes of “Blue Bloods,” actress Marisa Ramirez also talked about where the New York City locations where the show is filmed.

Also during that 2017 interview, Ramirez was asked about where the show was filmed. “Do you film all over the city or go into parts of New Jersey?” the actress was asked.

Turns out, most of the filming of “Blue Bloods” takes place in one of New York City’s five boroughs.

“Actually, we film everything in Brooklyn,” Marisa Ramirez also said. “(Except) for the iconic scenes, like near the Statue of Liberty, we are all over parts of Brooklyn.”

Ramirez also talked about other behind-the-scenes information about “Blue Bloods” in 2017. Some of the details she shared involved how long it typically takes to film one season of the famous cop show.

“We have a long schedule because we do around 26 episodes,” Ramirez also said. “So we will work for nine months, starting in July through the end of April.”

Filming of the 12th season of “Blue Bloods” is now underway. The first episode of that season is set to air on Oct. 1.
