‘Blue Bloods’: Meet the Actor Who Plays Archbishop Kevin Kerns

by Michael Freeman

Anyone familiar with Blue Bloods knows the Reagan family has strong ties with the Catholic church. In numerous episodes, we’ve seen Frank Reagan speak with Archbishop Kevin Kearns, but who is the man behind the character?

Besides Blue Bloods, you may recognize actor Stacy Keach in several movies and television shows. His acting resume is vast, appearing in movies like Nebraska, Escape from L.A., The Bourne Legacy, and many more. Additionally, he’s been on quite a few television franchises, such as NCIS: New Orleans, The Simpsons, and Man with a Plan. That’s but a handful of appearances, with his IMDb page listing a whopping 215 credits.

However, he may be best known for his stage appearances. He is considered a pre-eminent American interpreter of Shakespeare. One example of this is his run as King Lear at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. This run received the best reviews any national leader earned there for decades.

Born in 1941, he views his greatest accomplishment as his family. He married his wife Malgosia 25 years ago, with the couple bearing two children. Shannon Keach was born in 1988 and Karolina Keach came into the world two years later in 1990.

Stacy Keach plays the influential Catholic church member, Archbishop Kevin Kearns in Blue Bloods. Kearns and Frank sometimes go to one another for help. While they frequently have standoffs with one another, the opposing party typically relents. Though I struggle to say the two are friendly with one another, they don’t really have a bad relationship, though it often involves tension.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Says Tom Selleck Perfectly Fits Frank Reagan’s Character

Have you ever watched a show and thought to yourself the actor portraying a certain character seemed absolutely perfect for the role? Will Estes seems to think that with Blue Bloods, saying Frank Reagan and Tom Selleck are incredibly similar.

Speaking to Looper, Will Estes talked about season 12 of Blue Bloods and working with Tom Selleck. Playing Frank’s son on the show, Estes is quite impressed with Selleck. More than that though, he notes how similar the actor is to the character he portrays. “It’s awesome,” he stated. “You know, it’s funny, Tom isn’t that different than the commissioner. He is really so professional. He’s so studied.”

“He knows his character inside and out, and he does a lot in small ways to architect the scenes that he’s in,” Estes continued. “You come on set and you know you’re working with somebody who’s very well studied and very professional and executes time and time again, every scene. So you need to be on your toes when you work with him, which makes it a lot of fun.”
