‘Blue Bloods’: Donnie Wahlberg Detailed His ‘Perfect Day’ Filled with Family Activities

Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg said his perfect day begins and ends the same way, but it is filled with family activities in between.

Wahlberg, who plays Detective Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods, detailed his perfect day to UpRoxx in 2019.

“I would wake up cuddling with my wife,” he told the website. “Take her and our kids and all of their friends out to breakfast at our favorite diner. Get in a quick workout with my wife, while streaming an episode of The Crown. Go golf with my golfing buddies. Meet my wife and kids for dinner. Go to the Hotel Baker in St. Charles [Illinois] for an old-fashioned and my wife’s favorite, a cosmopolitan. Then go back home and get in bed with my wife, where the day started.”

In fact, it seems most of his answers revolved around spending time with his family.

What was the last movie he’d seen? “I saw two movies in one day. It was The Greatest Showman, which I rented out a theater to show my wife privately because it’s her favorite movie. And we also watched Parasite, which is a Korean film that’s out right now.”

The New Kids on the Block singer is married to model and actress Jenny McCarthy. They have three children. Wahlberg has two from a previous marriage, and McCarthy has one from an earlier marriage.

Wahlberg grew up in a large family with eight brothers and sisters. He has said his love and dedication to his family came from his mother, Alma, who passed away recently.

Donnie Wahlberg Discusses ‘Blue Bloods’ Family

Donnie Wahlberg said he and the cast of Blue Bloods are close. In fact, he calls his Tom Selleck, who plays his dad in the show, dad in real life. He explained to Entertainment Tonight how close they’ve gotten to each other over the years working together.

“I call him dad now, and he calls me son,” Wahlberg said. “I mean, that’s how we talk to each other off-camera. First, he used to kind of grumble at me, like… ‘This music guy’s kind of weird.’ And then now he calls me son. And he’ll come in and give me a big hug. You know, you get a hug out of Tom Selleck, that’s a big deal.”

Wahlberg said he’s learned a lot from working with the TV legend, and he even got the chance to direct him in a Blue Bloods episode in 2014.

“Tom’s such a perfectionist,” he told PopCulture.com. “He’s so dedicated to his work that you’re not going to come in and tell him these magnificent ideas that you have of how to make his scenes special. He’s already come up with 500 ideas himself a week before you even sit down with him. That’s how devoted he is to his work.”
