The range of emotions at Reagan family dinner scenes in “Blue Bloods” has greatly varied throughout the show’s 11 seasons on the air. Some of these dinners have been lighthearted. While others have consisted of pretty intense arguments between family members.

One dinner from the show’s 11th season stands out for its intensity. The scene begins with a wide shot of seven of the members of the Reagan family at the dining room table. There is New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), and Danny’s son, Sean (Andrew Terraciano). Also gathered around the table are family patriarch Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), NYPD officer Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), Jamie’s wife and fellow NYPD officer Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray), and Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan).

It’s obvious from the start of this “Blue Bloods” dinner scene that there is a lot of tension in the air. The look on Danny’s face makes it clear that things are not as they should be. And, as Henry asks for someone to pass the potatoes the tension becomes even more evident.

Sean clearly notices something is amiss. “Yeah well, there’s going to be a lot of leftovers, especially because Grandpa, Dad, and Uncle Jamie are barely eating,” he says.

“And barely talking,” Henry then says. “I don’t know what’s worse – you guys arguing or not saying a word,” Eddie adds.

“Anyone care to fill us in?” Henry asks.

Tension in ‘Blue Bloods” Dinner Scene Rises as a Major Secret is Shared with the Reagan Family

Danny refuses to answer. He suggests his fellow Reagans should talk to his father, Frank, or his brother, Jamie. “They’re the ones keeping all the secrets,” he then says.

Erin then asks for an explanation. And Danny, being the hothead he can be, says: “You’re not going to get nothing out of them. I’ll just say that gun trafficking operation we were working – you know, the one with the family that was massacred? – There’s been a man on the inside the whole time.”

Erin thinks this is a good thing. However, Danny quickly squashes that idea. He tells her she “won’t think it’s great” when who the person on the inside is.

While Danny is being Danny, Frank and Jamie have stayed silent. Frank then gives his son permission to explain what’s going on to the other “Blue Bloods” characters.

“Fine. Since you won’t, I will,” Danny tells his father. Danny then goes on to share that Joe Hill, “the Reagan that we never even knew existed” is the person on the inside of the gun-trafficking case. Danny also tells the family that Jamie has been aware of what Joe Hill has been doing.

“Just like his dad,” Sean chimes in. His dad, Joe Reagan, was killed in the line of duty. “I don’t need you to remind me, Sean,” Franks then says.

It also comes to light that Jamie and Frank were aware of why Joe disappeared and that he kept it from the family. Eddie is upset that her husband kept this from her. Frank tries to explain, but it falls on deaf ears. So, he leaves the table and walks away from his family.
