Blue Bloods star Bridget Moynahan defended her decision to keep her 2015 wedding to New York financier Andrew Frankel a secret until after the event.

The actress, who plays Erin Reagan on Blue Bloods, was on CBS This Morning to promote the show, and also her cookbook The Blue Bloods Cookbook.

At the end of the interview, Gayle King pressed the 50-year-old actress as to why she kept the wedding a secret even to the guests.

“I was in the limelight for things I didn’t want to be in the limelight for. And so — I’m very private — if I want something out, I’d like to do it on my terms,” she said.

In the age of social media, the news would have leaked about the wedding had she sent out invites. So, Moynahan instead invited guests to a harvest moon party at Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, NY, Country Living reported.

The rest of the world found out about the nuptials from an Instagram post from Bridget Moynahan. In it she’s wearing her wedding dress and smiling wide at her new husband.

“Oh, by the way, guess what I just did,” she posted as the caption.

Moynahan has had public relationships before that went south, and she said she wanted to control the narrative this time. She dated Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady in the mid-2000s. They have a son named Jack, who was at the wedding.

Not much is known about how long Moynahan and Frankel dated, but they married shortly after he proposed to her.

“Andrew proposed to Bridget in April [2015] on a romantic getaway in Puerto Rico,” she told PEOPLE, noting that he did so with a vintage estate engagement ring from Fred Leighton. “The diamond is set east-west, exactly what the bride has always wanted.”

According to Country Living, Moynahan’s wedding dress was designed by J. Mendel. She added a fur jacket to fight off the autumn chill to finalize the ensemble.

Bridget Moynahan: I Finally Figured Out Marriage

Bridget Moynahan doesn’t talk about her personal life very often during interviews. But in a 2017 interview on Live with Kelly, she opened up about married life and how well it was going. She said the couple met through a mutual friend and were inseparable after that.

“Married life is good,” she said. “You know I finally figured it out in my 40s that when it works, it works. In life, there doesn’t have to be drama.”

Though she joked that she couldn’t remember exactly when their anniversary was.

“I think not this past October or the October before that,” she said, to gales of laughter from the audience.. ” … I think.

She then jokingly admonished the guest host, adding “thanks for throwing me under the bus on that one.”
