Bridget Moynahan has been playing Erin Reagan on the hit CBS police drama “Blue Bloods” since 2010. In 2015, she had already done over 100 of the iconic Reagan family dinner scenes. They’re the heart and soul of each episode. And any connoisseur of Thanksgiving dinner fare knows that mashed potatoes are the heart and soul of the holiday meal. How do the two overlap? We’re glad you asked.

In 2015, “Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan and the wife of the show’s executive producer, Wendy Howard Goldberg, published a cookbook. It’s not just any cookbook, however. It’s “The Blue Bloods Cookbook,” and it features over 120 recipes from the show.

And while Bridget Moynahan isn’t the one cooking the meals for the Reagan family dinners. She knows her way around a recipe. In fact, the Erin Reagan actress recalled a time that she was given the all-important Thanksgiving job holiday kitchen helpers know too well. She was assigned to the mashed potato station. The results were disastrous.

In an interview with James Corden on “The Late Late Show,” Moynahan told the story.

“One Thanksgiving, I was desperately trying to get the mashed potatoes out. I went to put some pepper in it, and the whole thing just dumped into the mashed potatoes. So now I had a whole thing of pepper inside the mashed potatoes,” the “Blue Bloods” star recalled.

Anyone who has spent any amount of time cooking has found themselves in a similar situation. You’ve accidentally overdone some powdered substance, be it salt, cayenne, or regular black pepper. But what did Bridget Moynahan do about it? Well, she got creative.

“So I got the vacuum cleaner out. What else would you do? So I just vacuumed all the pepper out. Nobody knew the better,” Moynahan continued.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Bridget Moynahan Was Promised Co-Star Donnie Wahlberg’s Paychecks

Fans of “Blue Bloods” may be surprised to learn that Bridget Moynahan originally turned the role of Erin Reagan down. But Danny Reagan actor Donnie Wahlberg wasn’t going to take her no for an answer. So he made a deal with her.

“I called Bridget Moynahan but she said ‘I already turned it down, I’m not going to do it. I begged and pleaded and made her an offer she couldn’t refuse. Which was that I would give her all of my paychecks if we weren’t able to shoot in New York. So, thank God we shot in New York,” Wahlberg told Entertainment Tonight in 2019.

If “Blue Bloods” didn’t shoot on location, Donnie Wahlberg would now be 11 years in the hole on his pay from the show. Of course, that wasn’t anywhere close to the only reason Moynahan decided to join the show. Frank Reagan actor and television icon Tom Selleck was reportedly a major influence on her decision to join the cast, as well.
