‘Blue Bloods’ Star Bridget Moynahan Said Tom Selleck ‘Was a Draw’ To Joining Show

“Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan had originally turned “Blue Bloods” down.

The model and actress was going to take a pass on the show when friend and co-star Donnie Wahlberg called her up and persuaded her to reconsider. He was going to be in it, Wahlberg pointed out, and so was Tom Selleck – and Selleck would make sure they filmed it in New York, Wahlberg assured her.

When asked on a 2011 episode of “The Early Show,” Moynahan explained that the chance to work with Selleck and Wahlberg was a major reason why she accepted the role of Erin Reagan.

“Well, you know, Tom was obviously a draw – well, you were – and Donnie and I had worked together before,” Moynahan said. “So I think there was already an ease there, and a comfortability, that I was really looking forward to working with.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Learned to Trust Her Instincts As an Actress

Moynahan’s breakthrough acting role was as Natasha, Mr. Big’s young wife, on the hit TV series “Sex in the City.” From there, she went on to play an angry bartender in the movie “Coyote Ugly.” Following that were roles in the movies “I, Robot” and “The Sum of All Fears.” And finally, “Blue Bloods.”

Over time, Moynahan has learned to trust her own instincts. But before she started working with well-known acting coach Caymichael Patten, she took an acting class with other students.

“I was sought out for a film role once, and I had to audition,” Moynahan told CBS’s Watch! magazine in 2019. “I asked somebody in my acting class to help me with the part. Everything I thought to do naturally, he changed. He urged me to perform the role in a way that did not feel natural. I went with what he was suggesting, and I didn’t get the job. What I took away from that experience was that you have to trust yourself.”

When It Comes to Shoes, Moynahan Goes With Her Gut

When it comes to shoes, the “Blue Bloods” star always trusts her instincts. For the book “Our Shoes, Our Selves,” she wrote a personal essay about a pivotal pair of shoes. She picked them out during a time of personal crisis. The shoes were Miu Miu motorcycle boots. And she bought them in a Los Angeles department store where she had ducked into the shoe section to avoid paparazzi.

“I decided that these boots would give me back some of the confidence and strength that I had lost,” Moynahan wrote. “Lost from a very public breakup, lost from having a baby on my own, lost from two surgeries to correct hernias from having my baby, lost from not losing baby weight because the two surgeries kept me from recovering, lost from feeling incessantly violated by the paparazzi. I bought those boots and walked out of there feeling slightly closer to getting back to myself.”

Today she has recovered from that experience and gotten her life back on track. Now Moynahan is more confident than ever about trusting her own instincts and using her own voice. And fans of “Blue Bloods” can see her in action when Season 12 hits the airwaves.
