While Donnie Wahlberg is pretty good at portraying Detective Danny Reagan on “Blue Bloods,” he may be even better at taking selfies.
Wahlberg has been on the popular police crime drama “Blue Bloods” since it first aired in 2011. However, he had been used to the flashing camera long before that. Namely, he is a founding member of New Kids on the Block, which was a group widely popular in the late ’80s and early ’90s. He was used to the flip phone cameras pointed at his face.
The group still has its core group of fans, still more than willing to take or be in pictures with the boy band.
Now, however, Donnie Wahlberg has become infatuated with turning that camera around and pointing it at himself. He has the Guinness World Record for most selfies taken in three minutes that he earned back in 2016. He’s got all the tweens and teens beat.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg decided it was time to crank out some record-breaking selfies. He had a Guinness representative come aboard the New Kids on the Block cruise. It was the eight annual cruise the band has had and it completely sold out.
There were about 3,000 excited fans that surrounded Wahlberg aboard the massive cruise ship. Quickly, Wahlberg took 122 selfies with different swarming and screaming fans. The fans got into a line and they all shuffled through as Wahlberg took a very quick photo with each person.
You can watch the craziness of these cruises on seasons of “Rock This Boat: New Kids on the Block.” Despite having a successful career in both film and TV, Wahlberg has continued to keep up with his musical past. The group reconnected in 2008 after nearly two decades apart. They have sporadically released new music. One of which was the 2020 song “House Party.”
The group has still kept up with their cruise ship touring as well while Wahlberg works on “Blue Bloods.”
‘Blue Bloods’ Star Takes Picture With Fan
For those 3,000 fans on the cruise, watching that Guinness World Records moment was likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
However, there was one other fan that got an experience with the “Blue Bloods” star that was exceptionally special. An employee from the Wahlburgers location in St. Charles, Illinois, got a visit from Donnie Wahlberg himself.
“Didn’t know how much I missed and needed this hug! We are sitting here in tears of gratitude & love for our BH family &for the kindness of a man who always puts others first,” she wrote in a Twitter post.
The restaurant opened again in the summer of 2020 after being shut down due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He responded to her tweet by saying, “Now I’m crying in private.”
Amongst some difficult times, Nicole got a unforgettable surprise at work. The restaurant holds a special place in Donnie Wahlberg’s heart, as well as the rest of his family.
