Both Donnie Wahlberg and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, are famous and successful. He is known for his role on “Blue Bloods” and as part of the music group “New Kids on the Block.” She is known for her modeling career and her work on such shows as “The View” and “The Masked Singer.”
However, according to what Wahlberg told Fox News in 2020, neither one of them views themselves as “Hollywood” people. They married in 2014. Both Wahlberg and McCarthy, he said, look to their poor, Irish-Catholic upbringings to keep them grounded.
Unlike many other stars, the husband and wife don’t live in Los Angeles or New York. They make their home in the Midwest – Chicago to be exact. And, according to Wahlberg, he and McCarthy “don’t think of ourselves as a Hollywood couple.”
The “Blue Bloods” star said he and his famous wife view Hollywood as their place of employment.
“We don’t live in Hollywood. You know, we don’t really think we’re Hollywood. We just think we’re real people. I mean, I grew up … we both grew up really poor Irish Catholics – her in the Midwest, me on the East Coast,” Donnie Wahlberg said. “We live in the Midwest. Her still family is still there, my family’s still there on the East Coast. And, you know, Hollywood is just where we have to go to work sometimes.”
‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg Said He and Wife Jenny McCarthy View Themselves as ‘Just Entertainers’
Hollywood star is not a label “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy would put on themselves. Instead, they have another way of looking at themselves and what they do for a living. This perspective also comes into play as they are parenting their children, he also said.
“I don’t think we think of ourselves as Hollywood or part of Hollywood in the traditional sense,” Wahlberg explained. “I think we’re just entertainers who entertain. And it’s one of the reasons we live in the Midwest, you know. We made a commitment to be together for the rest of our lives and to raise our kids in a very … in an environment like we grew up in. And that’s not really Hollywood.”
While Wahlberg and McCarthy avoid many of the trappings of Hollywood and its culture, he explained that he wasn’t being completely anti-Hollywood by his comments. The culture just isn’t for him, his wife, and their family.
“And that’s not to say Hollywood is a bad place per se, but we don’t surround ourselves with Hollywood life. It’s just not our thing, you know, where we’re down-to-earth people and we’re a couple first,” Wahlberg said. “… I just think we’re a couple. We’re not a Hollywood couple. That’s really our attitude.”
Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy married one year after he made an appearance on her show, “The Jenny McCarthy Show” in 2013.
