One can only imagine what Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg and the rest of his siblings are feeling as they experience their first Mother’s Day without their mother, Alma.
On April 18, the heartbreaking news that Alma Wahlberg had passed. Just three weeks later, the Wahlberg family is celebrating Mother’s Day without her. But while she may have passed, Donnie Wahlberg is staying thankful and keeping perspective.
In a tweet posted on Sunday morning, May 9, the Blue Bloods star shared a message of appreciation.
“To all the Moms of the world,” Wahlberg wrote. “What words are adequate enough? What words are powerful enough?”
If Wahlberg didn’t already start strong, his final question drives the love home.
“What words could ever truly acknowledge each and every one of the millions of amazing things that you all do? I’ll start with two — THANK YOU! #HappyMothersDay“
It’s a very sweet message and the emotional impact of it is only heightened with the context. Despite still grieving the loss of his mom, Wahlberg is recognizing the impact that all mothers bring to the world.

Alongside his brother Mark, Donnie Wahlberg detailed his emotions after Alma’s death. In a post that featured a beautiful video tribute to Alma, the Blue Bloods star penned an extensive message.
“I’m so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by and set on my life’s path by, such an amazing woman,” Wahlberg wrote. “My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am.”
If you need any testament to the strength and importance of Alma Wahlberg, Donnie is one of 12 kids. Before Blue Bloods, before New Kids on the Block, Donnie was a member of a classically huge Boston family.
“Like so many moms who struggled,” Donnie continued. “Overcame odds, made something from nothing and pulled off the impossible for their children, she never complained. She did what needed to be done, most often, with a smile. She made the best of times in the worst of times.”
After discussing his mother’s favorite song, the Blue Bloods star concluded his tribute with a final message of grief and gratitude.
“It’s time to rest peacefully, mom,” Wahlberg concluded. “I love you, miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always.”
