Marisa Ramirez, who plays Det. Maria Baez, on “Blue Bloods” has certainly become a fan favorite over her eight seasons with the show. She plays Danny Reagan‘s (Wahlberg) partner on the show. However, after her first episode with the show, she had no idea that she’d be there for the next eight years. In fact, she thought she was going to do one episode and then continue searching for roles in Los Angeles. During a recent interview, Ramirez opened up about her initial expectations for the show.

“And now it’s been eight years and we’ve developed relationships. And created memories both on and away from the set, and with the crew. Just so much has happened and we’ve all grown up so much since then too,” said Ramirez. “But, you know, I wasn’t investing too much because I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to do one episode and then I’m going to go back to L.A. for pilot season.'”

Marisa Ramirez Had No Idea She’d Become A Series Regular On ‘Blue Bloods’

Little did she know she’d become a series regular in no time.

“And it just kind of turned into something more. I stayed for another episode and then another episode. And then I moved here,” said Ramirez.

So what was the most difficult part of transitioning onto “Blue Bloods”? It sounds like Ramirez’s journey was pretty smooth. However, there was one thing that made her nervous when she first started.

“But when I first got here, I didn’t know the history of all the other partners. So I kind of didn’t really know what I was walking into,” said Ramirez. “And some people were like, ‘Oh, you’re the new partner,’ and I was like, ‘What does that mean…?'”

Luckily, she had her co-star Donnie Wahlberg to ease her nerves.

“But fortunately, Donnie was just so welcoming and we just hit it off since day one. And we’ve developed such a friendship since that time.”

She also added that she wasn’t the only actor to start “Blue Bloods” the same time she did. Actor Vanessa Ray, who plays officer Edit “Eddie” Janko, started around that time as well. So, having another newby on set was helpful.

“And I know Vanessa kind of started at the same time as series regulars so we kind of bonded over that.”

Ramirez’s spot as an official “Blue Bloods” family member was solidified when she attended a Reagan family dinner on the show. During the season 11 premiere episode titled “Triumph Over Trauma,” Baez and Danny were looking for a missing woman. During the episode, Baez gets hurt after being pushed down a flight of stairs. The episode concludes with Baez attending Sunday dinner with the Reagans for the first time. Initially, fans thought that meant the relationship between Baez and Danny was growing into something more. But it looks like it was just a one-time thing. Nevertheless, fans enjoyed watching the Reagan family poke fun at Danny in front of Baez.
