‘Blue Bloods’ Star Tom Selleck Had to Pay Over $21,000 in 2015 California Lawsuit Surrounding His Ranch

Blue Bloods actor Tom Selleck was on the hook to pay over $21,685 to settle a lawsuit in 2015.

The suit alleged that Selleck’s Ventura, California ranch received at least 12 deliveries of water that were each taken out of hydrants miles from his ranch, and then later delivered to the star’s property. The suit, per NBC News, mentioned incidents dating as far back as 2013.

The Calleguas Water District filed the lawsuit in reaction to hearing of the deliveries while the state of California was battling with a historic drought.

The civil suit brought against Selleck and an unnamed water delivery service aimed to halt the deliveries. The suit also sought to collect a reimbursement for the $21,685.55 the district paid to a private investigator.

While Selleck did agree to pay that amount to settle the suit, it is unclear whether or not he was aware of the water’s source, per NBC News at the time.

Blue Bloods Star Tom Selleck Balances Family and Fame on Ventura Ranch

Initially, the Blue Bloods star had planned simple, one-year hiatus from acting. However, this one year stretched into many when the actor found himself to be unimpressed with the available roles.

Additionally, the actor found himself to be more impressed with spending time with family on his beloved ranch.

“It was a big lull,” said Selleck of his choice to choose family, and his ranch, over fame. “It put a lot of things in perspective.”

“I’ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family,” said Tom Selleck, noting that the decision to step away from acting for a while was one that he is glad he made.

“I had a feeling of, ‘I don’t think I’m cut out for this,’” the star said of his initial fame.  “I’m a fairly private person.”

In the 1990s, Selleck decided to return to the small screen with roles in the hit shows Friends and The Closer. Selleck also took on the role of Jesse Stone in the popular television movie series. Most recently, Selleck can be seen as police commissioner Frank Reagan on the hit series Blue Bloods.

“I’m proud of my work, I still love what I do, and I have my family,” Selleck said. “I’ve been enormously fortunate.”

Tom Selleck Rose to Fame as Magnum, P.I.

Selleck rose to fame in the 1980s as the handsome and charming Thomas Magnum in Magnum PI.

When Selleck left the show in 1988, the actor decided it was time to seek a quieter life. He purchased the ranch and was eager to spend time away from the limelight.

“I quit Magnum, not because I didn’t like it or I was tired of it,” the Blue Bloods star told People. “I was tired from it. And I wanted a three-dimensional life because I didn’t have one.”

Selleck noted the retreat with Jillie as well as his grown children, Hannah, 31, and Kevin, 54, is still one of his favorite places to be, even as he returned to acting.

“My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,” he said.
