‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Described How ‘Natural Course’ of Show Led to Jamie Getting Married

Blue Bloods star Will Estes once described how his character Jamie Getting married felt like a part of the “natural course” of the show. Estes plays “Golden Boy” Jamie Reagan who married his former partner, Eddie.

Estes and his fellow Blue Bloods cast members are gearing up for an upcoming 12th season of the procedural. And while Jamie and Eddie seem to make a fan favorite power couple, Estes had his reservations.

Will Estes Was initially Against his ‘Blue Bloods’ Character Getting Married

“When I first heard the characters were gonna get together and get married I was afraid of it, you know? I was against it because to me it was kind of like Mulder and Scully from ex files, you know? It’s like once they’re together, what’s the story? Once that tension is gone,” he told PopCulture.

Many shows have suffered after letting their “will-they/wont-the” couples get together for that reason. While it’s a natural concern to have, Blue Bloods has seemed to find its groove with the two as they adjust to their married lives and continue climbing the ladder in their careers.

“We obviously had been playing that these two characters have this huge affinity for each other and love and respect for each other but I was worried about that story being over once they were married,” the Blue Bloods star admitted. Thankfully, he doesn’t think it is.

“I think in a way they were working together before and now they’re still together in some capacity,” he said. “We find them in this new place of being together yet they’ve kind of been together in a way all along, you know.”

“As the characters have been together for long it felt like a natural progression ,” the interviewer, Daniel Levine commented.

“Yeah. Definitely,” Estees agreed.

What Season 12 Has in Store for Jamie and Eddie

But the future for Jamie and Eddie on Blue Bloods? Well, it’s safe to say you won’t expect the two to get too domestic yet. The two are still very career-focused, and writers have hinted that a baby wouldn’t be on the cards for next season.

While Executive Producer Kevin wade said that they “talk about it sometimes” when it comes to the couple having kids, he seemed very keen on what’s next for the two career-wise.

“For now, we’re just gonna play probably Jamie’s promotion,” Wade told TV Insider. “If they said this show’s going to run for six more years, I’m guessing that Jamie may well be in 1PP before it was over – not necessarily as commissioner, but he seems like the guy who’s on his way up on that side of things.”

Fans are hoping to see Eddie promoted to detective after being great undercover. Jamie is also expected to climb the ranks. Wade made that seem like it was a possibility.

Blue Bloods Season 12 will be back on CBS this Fall.
