“Blue Bloods” star Vanessa Ray, who plays Eddie Janko on the show, had gotten herself all worked up to audition for her part when disaster struck. The casting director got stuck in an elevator.

Ray had already sent in one audition on tape. But she needed to audition in person in Los Angeles to get the role. On the day she went in for her callback, the casting director had to wait to be rescued by the fire department.

So what did Ray do? She waited, too.

“They were like, ‘Maybe we should reschedule for tomorrow,’” Ray recalled in a 2019 interview with CBS’s Watch! magazine. “But sometimes as an actor you’re like, ‘No! I’m ready right now and I don’t want to come back tomorrow. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but I know today I can get this job.’”

And so Ray sat on the CBS lot for two hours until finally, the fire department pulled the casting director out of the elevator. She was all set to go then and she wasn’t going to leave without auditioning for “Blue Bloods.”

“And then I was like, ‘Ready?’” Ray recounted. “And I got it!”

Ray’s Husband Attended Her ‘Blue Bloods’ Wedding Dress Fitting

After Eddie and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) got engaged, one thing was for sure: There was going to be a wedding on “Blue Bloods.” And when it came time for Ray to be fitted for Eddie’s dress, her real-life husband showed up to the fitting. He said he had wanted to be there for her real-life wedding dress fitting but couldn’t because that would be bad luck.

“He really did give his two cents,” Ray said. “It was a collaboration. Our costume person, Michael Woll, and I found one we were all happiest with. When I actually got married it was a nontraditional dress. This is the complete opposite; it’s very traditional. Mine was pale pink with a green muslin skirt and a separate fitted top. It was a very hippie-girl-in-the-trees kind of feel.”

But Ray’s “Blue Bloods” character is not a hippie-girl kind of person, and when she said her vows, they wanted a dress that matched Eddie’s nature. So fans got to see Ray all dolled up in traditional wedding garb, even if the episode faded to black before the couple actually said their vows.
