“Blue Bloods” actor Vanessa Ray is ready to return for another season of the CBS police drama. But she’s got some thoughts about her role.

Ray, who plays Officer Eddie Janko-Reagan, talked about it in a May 2021 article for Long Island Weekly.

“I hope that we continue to see her kind of find her voice within the family,” Ray said in looking ahead to this season. “I think she has a confidence now that she hasn’t had necessarily early on at the family dinner table.

“She was taking it all in and figuring out where she fit and where her voice was,” the “Blue Bloods” star said. “It’s fun to see her now be outspoken at the table, be confident in the fact that she’s different than the rest of them.”

Ray talked about starting out as a rookie and being on the streets with her current partner, Officer Rachel Witten, played by Lauren Patten. She said that “she [Eddie] has to find her own confidence and stand on her own; the buck stops with her.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Realized She Had to Stand On Her Own and Make Decisions

“Whenever something is going awry, whatever call she makes she can’t look to Jamie,” Ray said. “I hope we continue to see how that affects her having to use her own voice and stand on her own two feet.”

Ray’s Eddie is the wife of Sergeant Jamie Reagan, played by Will Estes. They started out working together, though, then built up romantic feelings toward one another. Jamie asked Eddie to be his wife and they were engaged by the eighth season. They were married in the ninth season and their relationship continued to flourish last season on “Blue Bloods.”

Both Ray and Estes will be back when the CBS police show starts up its 12th season on Friday night, Oct. 1. Yes, “Blue Bloods” fans, the show will remain at its 10 p.m. Eastern, 9 p.m. Central timeslot.

Other stars returning include Tom Selleck as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, and Len Cariou as Retired NYPD Commissioner Henry Reagan.

Obviously, fans will want to know if the Reagan family will once again meet at the dinner table. Go ahead and count on some serious moments when food and wine are served. There’s never a dull moment when the Reagans gather together on “Blue Bloods.”

One question regarding a certain cast member might interest the show’s fans. Will Nicky Reagan make an appearance this season? Sami Gayle, who plays Nicky, appeared in the season finale last year. Nicky accepted a job in San Francisco last season and wasn’t around much. It’ll be interesting to see if she shows up or not.
