“I always say I’d rather visit him in a 25,000-foot mansion than in a 10-foot prison cell,” “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg told the Philidelphia Inquirer in a 2011 interview.

“I literally have had moments where I sit around thinking ‘what if’ and I get a pit in my stomach,” Wahlberg continued.

Mark Wahlberg hit the pop scene as the muscled Calvin Klein clad lead rapper of the hip-hop sensation “Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.”

He was fierce, tough, and Donnie Wahlberg’s baby brother. Since then, the youngest of the Wahlberg siblings has found fame as one of Hollywood’s most famous leading men.

It’s hard to imagine some of our favorite movies such as “The Perfect Storm” without Mark Wahlberg. There was a time when most of us would have been in disbelief that Mark Wahlberg’s star power could eclipse that of his brother Donnie’s fame.

Donnie Finds Boy Band Fame While Mark Hits the Big Screen

“New Kids On the Block” hit the scene in the mid-1980s. The group found fame that they had never imagined. The boy band featured “Blue Bloods” star Wahlberg, brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood. The group sold more than 70 million records worldwide and won multiple awards.

Eventually, Mark Wahlberg stepped away from his “Funky Bunch” and found himself roles on the big screen. Soon, the youngest Wahlberg quickly moved from being Donnie Wahlberg’s brother to Mark Wahlberg, the movie star.

This shift, Donnie told the Philidelphia Inquirer is one he was happy to support.

During the interview, the “Blue Bloods” star discussed watching his baby brother’s rise to fame. As well as his pride in his success even if the star, at some points, eclipsed his own.

“Blue Bloods” Star Pleased With Baby Brother’s Path

Wahlberg watched his brothers, including Mark, heading down paths that would almost certainly lead to prison. From boosting cars to neighborhood fights, most of the Wahlberg siblings found themselves heading down a not-so-desirable path. for Donny, this was avoided as he joined his boy band at a young age.

The actor told the outlet that he is internally grateful that his early fame with “New Kids” led to a kick start in his brother’s career. The “Blue Bloods” star noted that he’s often asked if he’s envious of his baby brother as he found tremendous success as an actor and producer in Hollywood. His response is always that he is glad Mark had opportunities to escape the life path on which he was headed.

The actor added that he is happy with the level of fame he has found at this point in his career.

“I can still put on shades and baseball cap and walk into Target with my kids,” the “Blue Bloods” star said. “Nobody knows who I am. I love that. Love it.”
