“Blue Bloods” might be a cop show, but it is also a show about family. And, while the Reagans are the center of the series, there are other characters that are also considered part of that family.
One of those characters is Detective Maria Baez. She arrived on the New York Police Department scene as the partner of Detective Danny Reagan during the CBS drama’s third season.
Maria is played by Marisa Ramirez, while Danny is played by Donnie Wahlberg. The two have always had a great working relationship. This is true of their work both in scenes together on television and behind the scenes.
According to what the actress told PopCulture during March 2021, that working relationship has made working on the show a very positive experience. In fact, she said Wahlberg made her feel very comfortable when she joined the cast of “Blue Bloods.”
“Donnie was so welcoming. And we just hit it off from day one, and have developed such a friendship from that moment until now,” Ramirez said.
Marisa Ramirez Said She Feels ‘Safe and Comfortable’ On the Show
Her positive relationships with her costars on “Blue Bloods” have allowed Marisa Ramirez to do something she hasn’t done before.
“You hear so many horror stories about actors who worked together so long, and they secretly hate each other,” she said. “And we just love each other … I’m so excited to be at work with him and to feel safe with someone who knows me, because I feel like I keep my guard up with other actors, or crew, or whoever, and this is a place where I can let it down … It feels very safe and comfortable.”
The actress also said “it’s insane” how long “Blue Bloods” has been on the air.
“It keeps going,” Ramirez said. “I mean, honestly, I’m still in shock that I’ve been here eight years. It’s insane. It just keeps going.”
The show will return to CBS this fall. The title of the first episode of its 12th season was just released.
Donnie Wahlberg Has Also Shared Positive Words About His ‘Blue Bloods’ Costar
Marisa Ramirez isn’t the only part of the Baez/Reagan detective duo who had positive things to say about the other. Donnie Wahlberg also thinks Ramirez is pretty great. He even once said he believed she would be a “lifelong friend.”
“When Marisa came along, I knew immediately she would be a lifelong friend,” the “Blue Bloods” star told CBS during 2019. “Marisa came in, and she was just a solid person and actor, a solid partner on camera and off.”
Wahlberg also shared his thoughts on what he would like the future to hold for Maria and Danny.
“I would like them to connect a little more – not in an intimate way … but to really share with each other,” the actor said. “I think if Danny confides in anyone about the loss of (his late wife) Linda, for example, it would be her. I’d love to explore that.”
