‘Blue Bloods’: Why Sami Gayle Was ‘Freaking Out’ About Eating During One of the Family Dinner Scenes for a Hilarious Reason

“Blue Bloods” is one show known for its dinner scenes. A lot of things happen there, but Sami Gayle has quite a story to share.

Gayle, who is a regular or recurring cast member as Nicky Reagan-Boyle since the show’s first season, talked about her first experience with the dinner table scene. She talked about it during a 2017 cast appearance celebrating the show’s 150th episode.

“The first episode I saw, because I replaced the girl in the pilot, so it was about 5 in,” Gayle said of “Blue Bloods.” “And we were all around the family dinner table and I was just freaking out nervous because I was the new girl in town.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Faced Quite A Situation After Young Reagan Cousin’s Actions

What was the big deal? Gayle says the whole dinner table scene is focused on Nicky not wanting to eat her meatballs.

“By the way, she was vegetarian at this time in real life,” costar Bridget Moynahan, who plays Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan and Nicky’s mother, said.

“No, I can eat red meat, I’m not vegetarian,” Gayle said. “But OK, so the director at the very end says, ‘Take a bite of the meatball.’”

Then mayhem ensues. Her little cousin in the “Blue Bloods” scene happens to sneeze twice over her meatballs. Gayle then had to eat a meatball.

“Then, as soon as they yelled ‘Cut,’” Gayle said, “Bridget handed me a napkin. She was like, ‘Spit it out, spit it out.’ And I was like, ‘That’s my mom.’”

Gayle Has Produced Work Both On Stage, TV In Her Career

“Blue Bloods” definitely isn’t the first acting go-round for Gayle. She received her first acting experience playing opposite Patti LuPone in an off-Broadway presentation of “Gypsy.” Gayle played Baby June then and continued when the production hit Broadway.

Gayle also has other TV credits to her name. They include “As The World Turns” and “Royal Pains.”

When asked to recall her favorite episode from the CBS crime drama, Gayle goes no further than one from the second season. She gets to have a memorable scene with Tony Award-winning actor Len Cariou, who plays Henry Reagan on the show.

“Pop and I got to participate, we got to participate together in a talent show where we sang ‘I Don’t Need Anything But You,” Gayle said. The song comes from the Broadway musical “Annie.”

She said Cariou “is just one of the most talented, well-known, renowned Broadway actors. And I started my career on Broadway and it was so special to be able to sing with him on screen.”
