Jamie Reagan, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Hulk. What do they all have in common? They’re intelligent, good guys with big hearts that often find themselves in messy situations. Perhaps this is why Blue Bloods actor Will Estes says the actors behind The Avengers and Star Wars characters inspired him when he first began acting.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Shares His Inspiration as an Actor

Will Estes’ character, Jamie Reagan, on the hit crime drama Blue Bloods is loyal to a fault with a rock-solid conscience. That’s why it comes as no surprise when actor told Taylor Magazine back in 2017 that his inspirations are fellow stars that play the iconic fictional heroes.

“I had a chance to meet Mark Ruffalo recently and I was already a really big fan of his work. He’s such a gracious and cool guy, he made me an even bigger fan when I met him,” the Blue Bloods star shared.

Ewan McGregor is known for his role in later Star Wars films as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Mark Ruffalo, of course, plays the loveable yet monstrous Hulk in The Avengers movies.

After pondering a bit more, Estes also adds a third name to the list that demonstrates Estes’ desire to play the bad guy.

“Tom Hardy is a lot of fun,” the Blue Bloods actor said. “I would jump all over a chance to work with Tom Hardy. He’s a big talent.”

Although still a good guy, Tom Hardy’s most notable role, Max Rockatansky of Mad Max: Fury Road, is a much darker character than Estes’ previous two inspirations. The actor behind good-hearted Jamie Reagan even expressed his interest in looking for a darker role in the future.

“Well, the bad guys that we arrest always get to have all the fun,” Estes said. “I’ve had a chance to play a lot of characters similar to Jamie, but I’ll get a chance one day and I’m excited about it.”

What Makes Will Estes Take a Role

However, he explains that he doesn’t take a job based on the character. Instead, he looks at what the character’s perspective brings to the table and how it matches his abilities. In fact, Estes reported that it comes down to two conditions.

“Two things – if I like it; is it fun or cool or tells a truth that hasn’t been spoken before? The other part for me is if I think I can do it well. I can come across a script that I think is really good but it’s not right for me. So it’s those components. I have to really like it to be excited about it and I obviously have to feel like I can execute it,” the Blue Bloods star explained.

Paired with the actor’s professional inspirations, it seems Will Estes may be looking for the part of a misunderstood super villain with a secret heart of gold in the future.
