‘Bonanza’ Star Michael Landon’s Son Rushed Into ‘Emergency Surgery’ After Revealing Cancer Diagnosis

Michael Landon, known for his roles in “Bonanza” and “Little House on the Prairie,” was the father of nine children during his busy life.

Besides leaving behind a legacy of an outstanding television career, Landon’s kids are his lasting legacy. The iconic actor passed away on June 1, 1991, after a battle with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.

The last kid he had with his second wife, Marjorie Lynn Noe, is Christopher Beau Landon. He was born in 1975 and has three other direct siblings.

Unfortunately, Chris Landon is now struggling with a form of cancer as well. He took to Instagram to share the sad news. He was only 16 when his father Michael Landon passed away.

“Whelp….where to start. About a week ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. I was rushed into emergency surgery to have part of my kidney removed. I wasn’t going to post about it but I kinda need to because I got lucky and caught it early. It was a fluke that it was discovered and it hadn’t spread yet,” Landon said.

Chris Landon was especially lucky to discover his diagnosis early. Oftentimes, cancer isn’t detected until it’s too late. Michael Landon didn’t know until it started to impact the tissues and blood vessels around the pancreas.

“PSA time: watch your bodies. Get a physical. Get tested … Some of these cancers are silent killers. You don’t know they are there until it’s too late. I could have spent years walking around with this without symptoms. I’m so grateful to my doctors, my husband, my family and friends. I’ll get through this but PLEASE be vigilant too,” Landon wrote of his experience.

Michael Landon and Christopher Landon

Christopher Landon has taken after Michael Landon in many ways. For one, he works in the entertainment world. He is perhaps most known for writing the popular thriller movie “Disturbia” starring Shia LaBeouf. His work includes “Paranormal Activity 2,” as well as the third and fourth movies in the franchise, “Happy Death Day,” and “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.”

Christopher Landon is married to his husband Cody Morris. The two of them live together in Los Angeles. The couple has two kids together — August Kelly Landon-Morris and Beau Landon Morris.

In an article in The Advocate from 1999, Landon opens up about his experience coming out while being an up-and-coming screenwriter and director. He said he was worried he would somehow tarnish his father’s “wholesome image.”

Meanwhile, Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson on “Little House on the Prairie” alongside Michael Landon, spoke about how great of a guy the late actor was.

“He would have been really supportive of Christopher. His attitude was, What are ya gonna do — worry about pleasing everyone your whole life? He was open about everything,” Arngrim shared.
