‘Bosch’: Will IMDBtv Spin-Off Be Free to Watch?

Since 2014, Amazon Prime Video subscribers have been enjoying the exploits of LA homicide detective Harry Bosch. Now, even though “Bosch” has technically come to an end, fans will be able to watch a spinoff of the original show on IMDBtv for free. And yes, Titus Welliver will be reprising his role as the title character.

It’s only fitting that the new spinoff found a home on the free-to-watch IMDBtv streaming service. After all, “Bosch” is an Amazon Original show, and the rebranded streaming service is owned by Amazon, as well. Of course, just because the content on the platform is free doesn’t mean it comes without a catch.

Users will still be required to create an account. Many will find that to be an inconvenience but may be pleased with the features it provides. As part of IMDB, the platform is connected to the movie database itself. This allows users to leave direct reviews and read comprehensive information about the content.

However, the big drawback is the fact that advertisements are dotted throughout the content. The platform does offer a rotating library of familiar titles from movies to TV that is likely more diversified than any individual cable TV channel. In that respect, the advertisements are a small price to pay.

What to Expect From the IMDBtv ‘Bosch’ Spin-Off

Most “Bosch” fans will know that the show was based on the books of Michael Connelly. Fortunately for fans, there is more material in his books than the show was able to cover. And therein, we find the source of the new spinoff.

In a recent interview with Newsweek, Connelly talked about the subject of the new show. He claimed that the primary source material would come specifically from a book titled The Wrong Side of Goodbye. But he also mentioned that he doesn’t have complete creative control when it comes to the adaptations.

“I don’t actually get to choose the books, I tell them what I think would work, and people read them and come back and this one was kind of a no-brainer right away,” Connelly said.

The new show remains untitled at present. And there is no official release date. However, it will join a slew of other original content that the free-to-watch streaming service is producing.

“If you call it just ‘Bosch’ or just ‘Bosch PI,’ we hesitate because [while] it’s a great thing to bring over the audience—it’s very recognizable, ‘Bosch PI’—it does not serve the other things we’re doing with Maddie Bosch and Money Chandler. We’re really building up these two other characters,” Conelly continued in the interview.

So even though all of the specifics aren’t yet available, “Bosch” fans can take solace in knowing that the spinoff will be completely free.
