Pop superstar Britney Spears just isn’t having the negativity anymore. The legendary songstress took to her Instagram account on Saturday (July 18th) to fire back at her critics over her dance posts on her social media accounts.
“For those of you who choose to criticize my dancing videos… Look, I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think,” Britney Spears states in the post’s caption, which features a brutally honest pic with the phrase “Take me as I am or kiss my a–, eat sh-t, and step on Legos.”
Spears then says she has tolerated her father’s control for the past 13 years and she’d rather share videos from her living room, instead of onstage in Las Vegas for people who are “so far gone” they couldn’t even shake her hand. “I ended up getting a contact high from weed all the time, which I didn’t mind, but it would have to be able to go to a mother f—ing spa.”
Spears further claims, “And no, I’m not gonna put on heavy makeup and try, try, try on stage again and not be able to do the real deal with remixes of my songs for years and begging to put my new music in my show for MY fans… So, I quit!!!
Britney’s Fight Against Conservatorship
In June 2021, Britney Spears publicly spoke out against her conservatorship, which has notably controlled her music career as well as her finances since 2008. Her father, James Spears, is the co-conservator of her estate alongside the outside financial group, Bessmer Trust.
Britney proclaims in court that the conservatorship is “abusive.” According to CBS News, Britney said, “I don’t think I can live a full life. I feel ganged up on, I feel bullied and I feel alone.”
Following Britney Spears’ address in court, Bessmer Trust announced its petition to withdraw from the conservatorship. The fight to remove her father is still ongoing though. Fans of Britney have continued to show their support for her by creating a #FreeBritney movement on social media.
Britney Spears Calls Out Sister & Documentary In Instagram Post
Britney then calls out her sister, Jamie Spears, in the Instagram post. The singer states that she didn’t like that Jamie showed up at an awards show and performed her songs to remixes. “My so-called support system hurt me deeply,” Spears writes. She then says that the conservatorship killed her dreams. “So all I have is hope and hope is the only thing in this world that is very hard to kill. Yet people still try.”
Spears also shares her thoughts about the documentaries about her life, shows humiliating moments from her past. “I’m way past all that and have been for a long time.”
Britney goes on to add that people try to kill hope because hope is one of the most vulnerable and fragile things there is. “I’m gonna go read a mother f—ing fairy tale now. Psss, if you don’t want to see my precious a— dancing in my living room or it’s not up to your standards, go read a f—ing book.”
