Are you a fan of the canceled ABC show Rebel? If so, then you show know that there is currently a petition to bring back the show.
Rebel is a legal comedy-drama series that came to life thanks to the story of Erin Brockovich. It was created by Krista Vernoff and premiered back on April 8, 2021. The first season ended on June 10, but it was canceled by the network in May.
However, there is a petition going to save the show on Change.org. The creator of the petition, a woman by the name of Kellie Ocallaghan, is aiming to send ABC a message. And hopefully, the network will change its mind and greenlight the series for a second season.
“We believe the decision to cancel the show was rash!” Ocallaghan states. “The series was not given enough time to establish itself and to build an audience! The show deserves a second season! If you agree please sign the petition and spread the word!”
As of Monday evening, the petition had an impressive 90,539 signatures. The goal of the petition is a hefty 150,000 signatures — that figure will make it one of the top ones on the entire platform. If you would like to sign the petition or find out more, you can check it out here.
Katey Sagal, Star of ABC Show ‘Rebel’, Speaks Out
The show, Rebel, of course, stars Katey Sagal as Annie “Rebel” Bello. According to the petition, it combines drama and comedy and breaks down sexist and ageist stereotypes. Sagal had her own thoughts in a note that she wrote to her fans.
“Krista Vernoff gave us a great story to tell, and we told,” she previously wrote on Instagram. “Many of you were moved. Hopefully, this [show] biz situation has taught us all the power of asking for what you want, standing by something you believe in, and the power of unity. All that to say, carry on, one voice is how we get to many. With so much Rebel work to be done. One voice at a time.”
And as for the creator of the show, Krista Vernoff, she let fans know that Rebel would not be coming back. Vernoff also serves as the showrunner on fellow ABC shows Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19.
“THANK YOU to the fans behind the #SaveRebel campaign. Your passion was incredible,” Vernoff wrote. “We have learned there won’t be a Season 2, but we truly hope Rebel and the extraordinary [Brockovich] will continue to inspire you to fight the good fight in your communities and in your lives.”
In addition to Sagal, the show also starred names such as John Corbett, Lex Scott Davis, Tamla Renee Jones, James Lesure, Kevin Zegers, Sam Palladio, Ariela Barer, and Andy Garcia.
