Candace Cameron Bure is giving nods to her all-time favorite movie in her newest Christmas project.
She spilled secrets about her newest movie venture, If I Only Had Christmas, in a recent interview. Candace Cameron Bure says that she and her producer developed this script around her favorite movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”
Bure says that you’ll see themes from the iconic movie, including the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, the Wicked Witch of the West, and even the Wizard. Some of the names carry over from “The Wizard of Oz” in this new film.
The actress says, “All the characters somehow relate to or correspond to ones on The Wizard of Oz.” Bure also says that some of the key phrases from the movie appear in her Hallmark Christmas film. She says some of the Oz-inspired moments are a bit hidden, though, so you’ll “just have to listen closely.”
This is her ninth Hallmark Christmas movie. Bure plays a publicist named Darcy in If I Only Had Christmas. The character is from Kansas, like Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”.
She stars alongside Warren Christie, who plays Glen Goodman, VP of the publicity firm. The two quickly realize that they have lots in common. But the big Christmas gala might just get in the way of the budding romance.
Candace Cameron Bure the Executive Producer
Bure takes pride in the fact that she’s an executive producer on the film. Additionally, she creates and develops the scripts.
“The Christmas scripts particularly… I tag team with my producer and so we wrote and developed this from the ground up, and that’s why it’s so much fun.”
The former “Full House” and “Fuller House” star jokingly admits that her family doesn’t care about her movies. However, her daughter Natasha will show her mom some support. Bure says, “My boys are like, ‘not another Hallmark movie.'”
She also says that her dad loves her Hallmark Christmas movies. Plus, it’s his birthday the day the movie gets released.
“If I Only Had Christmas” is premiering Nov. 29 on the Hallmark Channel.
