Carrie Underwood and her five-year-old son Isaiah are both proud and ecstatic to hear their duet of “Little Drummer Boy” off Carrie’s Christmas album The Gift.

Underwood became emotional upon hearing the track, while Isaiah was full of excitement and pride in being able to worship and praise God through singing the duet with his mother.

“I’ll play my best for Him,” Isaiah said while singing, “pa rum pum-pum-pum, rum pum-pum-pum.”

The sweet, innocent voice of Isaiah singing his heart out alongside his mother is spreading Christmas joy. The track on Carrie’s Christmas album My Gift is one of the most moving and emotional songs on the record.

In the Bible, a verse from Matthew 19:14 states: “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’”

The scripture perfectly describes the innocence and sincerity in Isaiah’s beautiful voice as he sings. His mother couldn’t be more proud. She says he sounds great, and performing a duet with her son holds a special place in her heart.

Carrie Underwood is devoutly religious, hence the names of her sons, Jacob and Isaiah. She says that they were a “gift from God greater than any gift we can imagine.”

Isaiah is very religious, as well, and felt that dressing up for the recording was what Jesus would want.

The morning of the recording, Isaiah chose to dress in prim and proper attire. He donned the jeans he wears to church, a button-down shirt, and a little black fedora.

“I’m gonna go sing for Jesus,” he said, “so I wanted to look nice.”

In a written post from Guideposts, Underwood describes how Isaiah singing on the album means so much to her. She says she asked if he wanted to perform a duet, singing with her on one of her Christmas songs. Isaiah excitedly replied, “Okay, Mommy.” The response was one Carrie was happy to hear.

“We practiced together at home,” says Underwood. “He can’t read all that well yet, so we went over “Little Drummer Boy” line by line, word by word.”

“At the studio, he sounded like a pro, singing into the mic, headphones on,” says Carrie.
