One of Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s closest friends, Carson Daly, revealed what it was like to be a part of the couple’s wedding ceremony.
Calling the ceremony “a perfect blend of country and glamour,” the host of “The Voice” recently described what it was like to officiate the wedding.
“It was incredible to be part of such an important moment in their lives,” Carson said during an interview. “The best way to describe it is it was perfectly them — the whole weekend and the marriage itself. It was as elegant and refined and cool as Gwen is. And it was as country and down-home and fun as Blake is.”
The unlikely pair met six years ago when they worked together as coaches on the hit show, “The Voice.”
Daly also gushed at how “they just work” as a couple. “They’re an unlikely pair,” he added. “They’re like if you pair delicious fried chicken with a glass of champagne. On paper and on the menu it doesn’t seem to work, but it works. It’s comfort food with class,” he said.
The two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in front of 40 close family and friends at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch. Stefani wore a gorgeous Vera Wang gown, while Shelton opted for a more casual look with blue jeans.
The ceremony was held in a chapel built especially for the wedding by Shelton himself. The singers were also joined by Stefani’s three children, Kingston, 15, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 7. Daly’s own family was present as well.
Carson Daly Convinces Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani To Write Their Own Vows
Previously, the couple had not announced a specific wedding date. However, Shelton had teased that it might happen sometime this year.
“I’m afraid if she and I wait until next November, then I’m right back into ‘The Voice’ cycle again, and I really want to be able to have plenty of time before and after, so hopefully this summer,” Shelton said on the TODAY Show in March.
Daly also noted that he convinced both Shelton and Stefani to write their own vows rather than repeat the ones done by the officiant.
He explained that they are “two of the best songwriters in the world” and that everyone in attendance wanted to hear what they had to say about each other.
According to Daly, Stefani went first and crushed it, as he described. However, he didn’t reveal what he said at the private ceremony. However, he did say that there wasn’t a “dry eye in the house.”
After Stefani finished her vows, he even joked to Shelton that it be a difficult task to follow her. “It was very, very special,” Daly said of his friends’ big day.
