Oh, Chevy Chase. The thing is, you never really know what you’re going to see next in a Chevy Chase headline. Is it making apple pie hot dogs with Guy Fieri? Maybe it’s another one of his “Brady Bunch” pranks? Actually, this time around, the shenanigans center around magic. Well, sort of. I’m not sure what you’re about to see really constitutes magic, but you’ll have to decide for yourself. The star stumbled upon a viral magic trick involving a deck of cards and decided to give it a whirl himself. The result? A hilarious blunder you won’t want to miss (I’ve already watched it five times).

Chevy Chase Forgot to Say Abracadabra

Chevy Chase recently took to Instagram to share a side-by-side video duetted against a TikTok with his 144k followers. The TikTok shows off an illusionist by the name of @shinlimmagic. Actually, the TikTok star is a pretty reputable magician and resident headliner at the Mirage Casino. His skill compared to Chase’s… well, let’s just say there seems to be a bit of a learning curve for Chevy.

The video opens up with a couple of different hypothetical questions. Basically, the illusionist hints at the fact that he can transform money. Then, he proceeds to do just that. We see a single twenty-dollar bill change into a whole fan of them in just a matter of a few seconds. Now, mind you, this is what’s happening on the left hand of the screen in the TikTok frame. Chevy’s frame on the right paints a much different picture.

Chevy Chase gets off to a really good start. He mirrors exactly what the magician does and holds up a single twenty-dollar bill. It doesn’t take long for him to get confused, however, after placing the initial twenty-dollar bill in the deck and then quickly removing it again. He can’t keep up with the magician and therefore foregoes the trick entirely to pick up his own stack of twenties off-camera.

The audio adds an extra bit of charm and another layer of mischief to the video. It’s actually a cover of Linkin Park’s “In the End.” The lyrics explicate: “I tried so hard, and got so far. But in the end, it doesn’t even matter.” Now, Chevy Chase did not pick the music. He certainly lived out its truth, however. He did, indeed, make an attempt and got pretty far, but in the end, it didn’t really matter.

You can catch the impromptu magic show down below. Tell us your thoughts, too. We’d love to hear ’em.
