Sylvie Brett has settled into her place on Chicago Fire. She feels fully confident while running ambulance 61. And the paramedic doesn’t take any nonsense.

Seven years ago, Sylvie Brett left behind a broken life in Indiana for a career with the Chicago Fire Department. At first, she felt unsteady in her position. But last season, Sylvie was finally a strong paramedic in charge (PIC).

During a 2020 interview with Starry Mag, Sylvie Brett actress Kara Kilmer opened up about her character’s personal transformation. She said that Sylvie has learned a lot during her time in the 51. And by last year, she had “settled into knowing what she is doing.”

“She feels confident about being a PIC, and obviously, she has had a lot of partners,” Kilmer told the magazine. “I think it’s starting to feel like very much second nature to her.”

Sylvie Brett was initially shocked after trading in her small-town Indiana firehouse for a big city gig. Since joining 51, her career has been littered with deadly situations. And all of the experiences fundamentally changed her.

“I think someone did a tally that I saw where they were like ‘How many times Sylvie Brett has held at gunpoint,’ and it was like threatened at gunpoint maybe three or four times. Then, she was in a mass shooting and had a knife to her throat.”

But instead of crumbling under pressure, the PIC has formed a tough exterior. And she knows how to handle stressful situations. As Kilmer stated, Sylvie has “had some pretty harling experiences and lived to tell the tale.”

“That’s who she is. She has got some moxie,” Kara Kilmer added. “She can’t be bothered when someone is acting like a lunatic. We are definitely just trying to paint a picture that some paramedics in the CFD are actually like.”

‘Chicago Fire’: Why Kara Kilmer Loved Working with Former Co-Star Jesse Spencer

Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey gave Chicago Fire fans a dreamy love story. The two had that star-struck lover vibe that kept us rooting for them. But the golden couple’s screen time came to an end when Matt left the firehouse to care for his family. Sylvie and Matt are still working on a long-distance relationship. But we certainly miss their on-screen dynamics.

And according to a 2020 interview with Starry Mag, Sylvie isn’t the only person struggling with the relationship change. Sylvie’s actress Kara Kilmer is missing Matt’s Jesse Spencer just the same.

“I love working with Jesse,” Kilmer said. “He is a total dork and so fun to be around. People have asked do I like that they are in a romance and what do I think about that. If them being in a romantic relationship means if I get to work with Jesse more than great.  If them staying friends means I get to work with Jesse more than that’s what I want. Whatever scenario allows me to get to work with Jesse that’s what I want.”
