‘Chicago Med’: Where Is Heather Headley?

It’s been over seven months since we’ve seen Heather Headley on NBC’s Chicago Med, which leads people to wonder if she’ll ever rejoin the cast.

Heather Headley began working with Chicago Med during season three when she was introduced as Gwen Garrett, Chief Operating Officer for Gaffney. The character had a somewhat major storyline during season five when her young son nearly froze to death after Gwen left him in the backseat of her car. And after it came to light that Gwen’s negligence caused the incident, her husband filed for divorce.

But we haven’t seen or heard about Gwen much since her life-altering events took place. And since so many characters have left the series this year, it leads people to wonder if Gwen is gone for good. However, after looking at Headley’s recent schedule, we’re assuming the actress has been too busy to return to the role.

Heather Headley’s career is blowing up at the moment. Aside from her recurring role on Chicago Med, she’s also starring in Netflix’s original Sweet Magnolias, which was just renewed for a second season. And she’s fresh off the release of Respect, where she played gospel singer Clara Ward.

And as she showcased in Respect, Headley is also a successful singer. In fact, she won a Tony for her role in Broadway’s Aida in 2000. In 2018, she released her most recent album titled Broadway My Way. And it’s possible that Heather Headley is working on a new album.

Because of all her recent projects, we haven’t seen Headley’s Gwen Garrett on Chicago Med since last season. Her last appearance was in April. And Headleys’s prior appearance was all the way back in January of 2020. So, it’s not uncommon for the actress to take long breaks from the series.

With all of Headley’s recent projects, it may be a while before she returns to the set of Chicago Med. But is safe to assume that she’ll be back to reprise her role in the future.

‘Chicago Med’ Star Reveals What It’s Like Working with a ‘Lot of Perfectionists’

Squid Game actor Tom Choi had a short stint on Chicago Med last year. And according to a 2020 interview, he loved every minute of it.

When Tom Choi signed on for a guest appearance in Chicago Med, he had no idea what he was walking into. The actor knew nothing about the castmembers aside from the fact that they came from a “diverse” background.

And after working with the actors, he left impressed.

“The one true goal of any actor is to become a series regular on a television show,” he told Starry Mag.  “To see actors who have been on the show for five seasons. It is really nice to observe their ease and the fluidity in which they speak and socialize with each other. Also, the way that the regulars interact with the director and really know how their performances were taped. And if they could add more in doing one more take. A lot of perfectionists and that is important.”
