‘Chicago Med’: Why Recent Casting News is a Major Spoiler for Season 7

“Chicago Med” ended Season 6 by sending off some cherished cast members. But that and other casting news has served as a major spoiler for Season 7 of the show.

The news that Nick Gehlfuss would be returning for Season 7 resolves the Season 6 finale cliffhanger, in which Goodwin fires Will Halstead (Gehlfuss) after he takes the fall for Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto), who stole drugs from a clinical trial to try to save her mother’s life.

Ultimately, Manning confesses to stealing the drugs and begs for Halstead to get his job back.

‘Chicago Med’ Says Goodbye to Two Cast Members

Deadline recently reported that the Season 6 finale marked the end of the road for original cast members Yaya Dacosta and DeVitto. The initial contracts of the original “Chicago Med” cast are all drawing to a close and so Dacosta and DeVitto lined up other projects.

Dacosta will have a major role on Fox’s “Our Kind of People.” DeVitto, for her part, has signed on to the indie feature “Skelly.”

The rest of the original cast will be back for Season 7, Deadline reported. That includes Oliver Platt and S. Epatha Merkerson.

NBC picked up “Chicago Med” for three seasons, and the show is one season into that run. It is the most-watched NBC series of the season.

Torrey DeVitto Has a Musical Pedigree

DeVitto was at the center of the “Chicago Med” Season 6 finale. While fans will now be saying goodbye to her character, they can follow her work on “Skelly” and other future projects.

DeVitto almost didn’t go into acting. She took up the violin at age 6, and her parents both have serious music industry connections. Her father was the drummer for Billy Joel for years. And her mother is best friends with Stevie Nicks (of Fleetwood Mac, then a solo career).

“Most Billy Joel songs make me want to cry a little,” DeVitto confessed to Glamour in 2016. “They are so nostalgic for me—remembering what it was like to be on tour with my family, the smell of the stadiums, watching the shows. So much has changed since then, [but] all those songs hold great memories for me.”

DeVitto’s mother and Nicks remain best friends, and DeVitto said Nicks is “so close to [me], like family.”

“I love and appreciate Stevie’s music so much,” DeVitto added. “She is such a beautiful poet, whom I admire deeply. She is like an aunt to me or my ‘fairy godmother,’ as she likes to put it.”

DeVitto went pretty far in her violin studies, even performing a solo violin piece at Christie Brinkley’s wedding. But ultimately, the musical role models in her life were overtaken by her passion for acting. She got bit parts in her teens and advanced to roles on “Pretty Little Liars” and “One Tree Hill.” And now, with “Chicago Med” behind her, the sky’s the limit.
