Chicago PD Season 9 has almost arrived!

September 22 Chicago PD returns with its ninth season. It is the final show in NBC’s One Chicago Wednesday block. It will air at 10 PM ET, following the season premieres of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. Chicago Fire and PD will both pick up where the finales left off, without any time jumps. All three series have been rumored to crossover once again this season.

If you need to catch up on Season 8, you can stream the finale on Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, and Hulu.

You’ll recall that the Season 8 finale had Officer Kim Burgess investigating a suspected sex trafficking ring. She was then kidnapped and held hostage. Her team had different opinions on what to do, to go by the book or go above and beyond. Halstead and Atwater eventually rescued her and took her to Chicago Med, where fans hope that she will recover.

Luckily, we haven’t seen the last of Kim Burgess. She confirmed that she will appear on the show once again after sharing behind the scene photos from the set.

‘Chicago PD’ Cast

Chicago PD‘s core cast will be returning. Jason Beghe (Hank Voight), Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay Halstead), and Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek) have returned. Additionally, Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess), LaRoyce Hawkins (Kevin Atwater), and Amy Morton (Trudy Platt) are set to come back. Finally, Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton will be appearing.

Samantha Miller, played by Nicole Ari Parker will become a recurring character. During the last season, her son died. Will the theme of police reform continue?

“I think she’s going to figure out what she wants to do and how,” ShowrunnerRick Eid revealed to Monsters and Critics. “What happened to her son connects to this idea of policing and reform, but she’s not going to blame reform for her son’s death. I don’t think that it’s that simple. I think she ultimately believes that she did the right thing and just didn’t get the right result with her son. It’s a complicated issue. It’s not one plus one equals two here. I think that she did the right thing. It’s just interesting to put somebody who’s a proponent of reform in the face of reform, someone who’s a believer in reform, and put them in a really difficult situation to see if they walk the walk when it really matters. And I liked the fact that she did.”

One Actor’s Return To The Franchise

Chicago PD fans will undoubtedly remember Denny Woods, played by Mykelti Williamson. He was featured in Season 5 for his numerous wrongdoings. Although he won’t be returning to Chicago PD, he will be returning to the One Chicago franchise.

He will be directing at least one episode of Chicago Med this season.

Williamson previously directed two Chicago Med episodes during Season 6 and one in Season 5. Additionally, he was also the director of three episodes of Chicago PD.
