Chris Stapleton recently spoke to CBS’s Anthony Mason about his upcoming album and the recent heightened racial tensions. He admits he has had doubts about releasing new music in the current time of Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter protests. “I think everybody has doubts about everything they’re doing in every moment right now,” Stapleton told Mason.

Stapleton says he has been moved by the Black Lives Matter protests while understanding there is also a lot more work to be done. “I think everybody should be doing more,” he says to Mason, adding there has been a “broad awakening” in America.

He goes so far as to say his opinion and perspective of that America, in its entirety, has changed, as well. “I thought we were living in a different country,” Stapleton says. Furthermore, he admits, “I thought the country we were living in was a myth.”

“We all have a lot of work to do, as individuals and as a society,” he says, adding, “And if you don’t think that, I think you’re not looking.”

When Anthony Mason asked the short, direct question, “Do you support Black Lives Matter?” Chris Stapleton made his stance undeniably clear, saying, “Do I think Black lives matter? Absolutely. I don’t know how you could think they don’t.”

Of course, Twitter immediately had some words, both positive and negative, for the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer.
